Friedman Brings Positive Attention to Buffalo Again

Friedman Brings Positive Attention to Buffalo Again
Buffalo's own Alan Friedman, President of Great Arrow Graphics and President of Buffalo Astronomical Association has shot the sun, and it appears as the "Astronomy Picture of the Day" on this NASA site.

This isn't Friedman's first play on the NASA page, as his moon shot got their attention back in February of 2007.

Friedman's reaction?  "It's always cool when Buffalo makes the national news for an image of sun instead of snow!"

Can we call Friedman an amateur anymore?  We don't think so.  See more of his work at his site, Averted Imagination.  He has a speaking gig tonight at UB for the 2009 WNY Science and Technology Forum, Horizons of Space, so the timing of today's picture is perfect. Friedman also holds the title of Research Associate in Astronomy at the Buffalo Museum of Science.

I think you misunderstood the post. the 4th link down that says 'his moon shot' is what I was complimenting, the photo he took of the moon. I know the top photo is the sun shot with a blue filter on the camera or something like that. he could have used that on the moon shot for a blue moon.

Wow! What a great photo! Thank you for this article. Checked out all the links... I didn't know that Great Arrow made greeting cards. I have driven by there many times and never really knew what they produced. I have their page bookmarked now so I can buy my greeting cards local. Thank you!

...I was reading my latest copy of "Smithsonian" and saw an ad for Gozaic.com -- whose moniker is "Connect with Places that Matter." Low-and-behold, Buffalo is one of three destinations on the home page (along with a Seville to Venice trip, and Miami).
