Ellicott District Seat: The List Grows

Ellicott District Seat: The List Grows
Who knew so many people would be prompted to vie for the Ellicott District Buffalo Common Council Seat recently vacated by Brian Davis, who resigned last week.

The current roster of hopefuls is as follows:

  • Fred K. Heinle, former city worker
  • Donald O. Allen, former city worker
  • Griffith D. Pritchard, former M&T branch manager
  • Nicholas J. Primerano, marketing consultant
  • William F. Trezevant, attorney
  • Rev. Darius G. Pridgen, Bethel Baptist
  • Bryon J. McIntyre, city firefighter
  • Marilyn Rogers, grant writer, Johnson Park Revitalization
  • Janique S. Curry, NYS government, Board of Education
  • Kenneth N. Robinson, former school board member
This Buffalo News story by Brian Meyer has some information on each of the candidates.  Though Council President David Franczyk is not in his office this afternoon to make comment, it is expected that the candidates will be looked over, with one meeting council approval for the seat soon.  That person will serve until December of 2010.

This photo is as much the Niagara District as it is the Ellicott District

That's the Ellicott District. Cary Street, Georgia, and Whitney Place can all be seen. Trezevant's house is just out of the picture on the left and Roger's house is just out of the picture on the right. Niagara is in the back ground.

I would have needed a panorama to get all of Ellicott, but I think I have at least Rodger's and Heinle's neighborhoods here.

I would immediately disqualify: city workers and former city workers, as well as the NYS Board of Education and School Board. WE KNOW EXACTLY HOW THEIR GOING TO VOTE..AGAINST THE TAXPAYERS AND THE VOTERS AND FOR THE UNIONS OR HOWEVER THE UNIONS TELL THEM.

I would also immediately disqualify the baptist reverend (do you see any catholic or methodist or presbyterian or episcopal etc priests leaving their pews to run for political office..nope just african american baptists for which no one dare slap down with separation of church and state or concerns over tax exempt inside business deals like the one they got at the Buffalo Forge site and the million dollar waterfront condo) etc.

M&T Branch Manager and attorney...what do they know about community representation and organization but atleast they have organization and management skills.

Marketing...ditto as Branch Manager but atleast there is the possibility of a nice mix of details and big picture but them marketers are notorious for spin and manipulation not necessarily bottom line results.

But since the city common council is choosing...no doubt there will be politics involved.

There are some good people on the council but there is also alot of politics and lobbying pressure which makes good people appear less than virtuous.

Marilyn Rogers, knows the community from the grass roots up and as far as business and politics and common council mechanics...the people of the Ellicott District are better represented by grass roots ideas that bring the district together...the others have very different agendas and skills that wont do it.

You make a good point, Christine, particularly your last paragraph.

Marilyn Rogers will fight the good fight. She is strong, fair, intelligent, forthright and will work FOR THE PEOPLE. A concept foreign to most of our elected officials, on every level of government.

We would all be better off with more people like Marilyn Rogers representing us, on every level of government.

So, you'll disqualify anyone you don't happen to like, even though they live in that district (and you don't) and qualify in every other way. How very democratic of you.

Ahhh - I see you're back to your ignorant posts again...

nice...

White Catholics and Protestants are OK, but Black Preachers are not allowed - gotcha...

You and Shonuff should compare notes on your racism and bigotry...it should be interesting...

I'd go with Rogers too. She's much more than this post says. she gets results and does not stand on protocol and she doesn't play backroom games like a couple of the candidates shown here. Only thing is will the present council really look beyond there desires and choose the one that is best to get the job done? It's only a year to prove themselves and Rogers could do it. The others haven't invested themselves into the Elliccott District enough.

of course the list grows. political jobs have the best perks and salaries in new york state. Private industry including benefits/retirement pays HALF of what these jobs pay.

Of course I vote for Marilyn, I never heard of these other people except for for the Rev. Pridgen, but I don't trust him as Council Member. He should stay with this church. Religion and Politics do not mix.

Well, catholics take a vow of celibacy and poverty. Nearly every christian and protestant religion has priests and nuns that receive a very modest stipend from the church to live. Yes there are schools, hospitals, hospices, bingo and other charitable efforts...but...for the most part their pretty quiet on politics...and focus mainly on their congregations, morality and community.

African American Baptist Churches grouped together with civil rights are by contrast fronts for tax exempt businesses and are very very political. They violate laws separating church and state constantly with impunity by running ordained religious members as political candidates, endorsing political candidates...they use the church not just for business, and inside business deals but jumping boards to advance their political power.

AND THE HYPOCRISY OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS THAT NO ONE PUTS THE LIGHT OF DAY OBJECTIVITY UPON THE AFRICAN AMERICAN BAPTIST CHURCHES THAT THEY DO UPON OTHER NON-AFRICAN AMERICAN CATHOLIC AND PROTESTANT CHURCHES. ITS JUST ANOTHER CASE WHERE RACE ISNT USED TO THE DETRIMENT OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY BUT TO THEIR ADVANTAGE AND THE LARGER COMMUNITY SUFFERS.

how do we know that all of these candidates even live in the ellicott district?

oh, and christine, catholic bishops feel completely entitled to manipulate politics. they're trying to ramrod their anti-abortion politics into the health care bill. lets see your scary black baptists top that.

Please call me the next time a Pope, Cardinal, Bishop, Priest, Nun, Monk or Friar run for the Common Council or Mayor.

Contrary to the feminist nazis, a pregnancy is a human life and as such the priority must be for life such that the father must be notified and contacted prior to an abortion, an adoption agency and orphanage must be notified prior to an abortion...if the father who engaged in consensual sex and is 50% participant in that life refuses, and there are no adoptive recipients, and there are no willing orphanages then at the very least the culture of life has been explored and an abortion should be given permission to proceed.

I respect the christian beliefs in a culture of life even if I myself fall short of living up to the day to day standards of those beliefs. Even if I fall short or disagree, I will not disrespect my faith or my church or my religion.

So no...bishops are not interfering! Abortion was a ramrodded state enforcement of a purely feminist agenda that had no regard for fathers, the institution of marriage, the sanctity of life, the precious nature of children or the culture of life.

There is a big difference between being a moral advocate for parishoners and our religion and blatantly using a church as a tax free business to propel oneself into political office.

"Render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's and unto god what is god, said Jesus"

It did not say "Vote for Jesus against Ceasar in the next plebum"

sorry dear but women were liberated long before feminists, maybe not to the degree they are today but there have always been women who had it in them to rise up to their ambitions. As famous Lucille Ball said when asked about feminism, "whose stopping them! I was liberated from the beginning. No one stopped me."

But its the feminist liberal multi-cultural hypocrisy that feminist by into that somehow marriage is a cage, motherhood is a wasted opportunity, freedom is killing children without burden of marriage or father or faith,...not to menion the hypocrisy of feminist gender equality that demands women be represented in equal proportions in stay at home parents and in every level of politics and business and in every profession....except of course the professions they dont want such as the military or except of course the equality they dont want in reproductive rights, family court, divorce court or even the hypocrisy of relationships where women can mouth off and provoke but its not harrassment but a man saying your a fat big mouth 4-letter is abuse.

Feminism is, Im sorry to say, a culture of death that puts women in the role of single mothers and fathers are optional, to which we can see today...men dont just walk away from the responsibility...their pushed away from the responsibility of being a parent...life is hard for the feminist because everything about feminism is a culture of death death and loneliness.

Good luck sweety...if your a feminist...well their are stronger women than you that have existed throughout history but their hearts and lives and souls actually meant something.
