Construction Watch: Genesee Gateway

Construction Watch: Genesee Gateway

Time for another check-in on one of downtown's most overdue and visible redevelopment efforts.  The $12 million Genesee Gateway project is rehabilitating the Genesee Block into a mix of 60,000 sq.ft. of retail and office space.  CityView Properties is teaming with the Wendt Foundation on the project.

Genny40.pngPortions of the project are expected to be ready for tenant build-out and occupancy by the end of the year.  All work should be done in the first quarter of 2010.  Flynn Battaglia Architects designed the reuse plan.

I'm excited for this project to be done. Even if the tenants come in slowly.....its a much better welcome sign for those people getting off the thruway everyday.

IT looks. As if that greyish structure thatis being erected in the top picture is brand spanking new. I'm guessing most of the work that has been done is internal. Loooks great but it's gunna look 100x better as soon as the exterior becomes more complete. This project is excting and can help visitors shed their image of Buffalo being a boarded up city

Any word on the buildings and lots on the other side of the street?

It would be f'n awesome if phase 2 or 3 was to infill and restore the block right across from this.

Certainly coming along nicely. The huge changes that can be noticed most is when you look at the rear of the buildings when driving by. They are doing a great job repairing them, as well as massive additions.

The sketch at the bottom reminds me of a block on Rue St. Denis in Montreal, or even some of the corners in Paris... pretty cool stuff, i hope they don't stop with just this block. This project could be the anchor in the revitalization of that part of the East Side. Keep the updates coming!

This should be a lesson to all the people that just want to tear buildings down and start all over. Sure it cost more to do it like this, but it is going to have so much character compared to the new buildings that get thrown up without any of the details from yester years.

I am so happy this is being done and done the right way

in the sketch at the bottom it looks like there is vegetation on the roof of at least one of the buildings... anyone know if they're planning any green roofs or is it purely aesthetics?

All safety aside....

As the Genessee Gateway furthers completion...oh...how I wish...the next news story is a semi tractor trailor missed its turn and demolished the atrium.
