Buffalo: You'll Eat it Up!

Buffalo: You’ll Eat it Up!

Last night during the premiere of Tableland, Buffalo debuted its own culinary exploration in Buffalo: You'll Eat it Up!  Filmed and edited by Buffalo's own award-winning filmmaker, John Paget, and produced by the Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau, Buffalo: You'll Eat it Up! is a short film highlighting the rich culinary scene in our Queen City.

Nelson Starr of Truebluebuffalo.com is the host of this collaboration of Buffalo's regional favorites, fine dining, farmer's markets, wineries and food festivals.  From the recent creation of Beef on Weck maki rolls at SeaBar to the age-old tradition of Beef on Weck at Schwabl's, this video serves as an overview to the diverse Buffalo culinary scene.

This is a great piece on some of WNY's Greatest Places to Eat!!! As a fan of Sushi who has ate at many places around NYC, NJ and so on. Sea Bar Downtown has the BEST Tasting Rolls and Dinner Entres I have EVER Had. The Beef On Weck Rolls are a "MUST" if you like roast beef.

I agree 100%! I had a Nigiri tasting on one of my visits that was out of this world.

This would really make a fascinating local and/or regional book. I go to the Barnes&Noble or Borders and I see those wonderful photos of historical Buffalo, or Buffalo Architecture. How fascinating it would be to get a book on the "History of Buffalo Food" that could cover everything from what people used to eat, what food/juice/wine is grown locally, to things that are specific to our area like Easter Lambs Butter, to foods like wings that have gone national and international branding our city. Perhaps ending the book with something thought provoking like the demographics of local food. Do Buffalonians like salty, sweet, bitter, hotnspicy, bland, meatnpotaties or perogisnsour creme or ravioli.

It really gets my mouth watering just thinking about such a book but it would be such a fascinating book to read, especially those who love to know everything Buffalo.

Nelson Starr is a talented musician, but we all know that the only reason that the CVB tapped him for this video was because of his appearance on Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" program on the Travel Channel.

While it was nice to see some Buffalo and WNY on a national cable network, that episode of "No Reservations" not only did not depict the City of Buffalo in a positive light, it also did not even begin to explore the quality of dining options available in the area. The only worthy inclusion of this CVB video was Mike Andrzejewski and his Sea Bar restaurant.

Chicken Wings and Beef on Weck are indeed wonderful things, but they are two food items that the region is ALREADY known for world-wide. Am I the only one sick of seeing the Anchor Bar and Schwabl's pop up EVERY TIME someone brings up the topic of Buffalo and food?

With the wealth of good restaurants and even better chefs in the region isn't it time to concentrate on them instead of Drew Cerza, the King of Self-Promotion?

In addition to Mike Andrzejewski, why aren't we talking more about Kate Elliot and Juniper, and Richert brothers and Torches?

Sorry for the rant, but there's MORE to the food scene in Buffalo than friggin' wings and weck. It's time to stop pushing what the world already knows about and show them the variety and quality of restaurant choices in WNY.

Not just the Anthony Bourdain segment - Nelson Starr and John Paget made three great "restaurant tourism" videos about Buffalo; check them out at http://www.truebluebuffalo.com/tv/

I really wish they would make more! These are so slickly produced.

I know what you're saying about the wings and weck being stereotypes, but that's kind of what tourists like. They like to eat the "local food" that they either can't get anywhere else or that originated here. If you're a European on a grand tour of America, are you really interested in Shango when you get to Buffalo? No, you'll wait until to get to New Orleans to have cajun food. In Buffalo you'll have beef on weck or wings. Likewise, when I was in Paris, I ate French food and didn't bother to check out Paris's no-doubt incredible selection of Italian or Greek restaurants.

Now, if the CVB was making a video to try to attract new residents, then marketing the wide range of cuisines and styles available would be a great idea.

Nice video! The video probably could've been 30 mins long with all the great independent restaurants we have in this city. I'm so happy to dine at unique places that serve amazing food (Left Bank, Tempo, Scarlet, Bacchus), not the chain restaurants that permeate other cities. Buffalo's dining scene, and it's chefs, has to be one of the most underrated culinary cities in America.

Buffalo is not a bad restaurant city, especially for its size, but there is a bit of redundency (sp?) . The quality level is there on the food, but the whole package (service, food, wine & atmosphere) is a little harder to find. I like that for the most even the better places are casual.

How is it possible that this post only has 8 comments? I can only guess that it's because the title doesn't make it clear that there's a video posted here, a video deigned to draw tourists to WNY through the CVB's website based on our region's food 'culture'. Normally a post with this type of story would have 100 comments by now.....
