Breakfast and Lunch: Get Ready to Chow Down

Breakfast and Lunch: Get Ready to Chow Down
Buffalo's popular Main Street artisan café and chocolate lover's dream, Chow Chocolat, recently added breakfast and lunch to their already extensive menu of handmade chocolates, specialty drinks and desserts. Opened in April 2008 by Scott and Jaclyn Wisz, customers have flocked to the café to enjoy indulgent items such as flavored truffles and sipping chocolat.

The new breakfast and lunch selections were introduced to the Chow Chocolat menu on Oct. 26, 2009.  Co-owner Jaclyn Wisz said, "People had pretty much been asking about adding breakfast and lunch." So, the Wiszs' utilized one of their employees, chef Paul Kozlowski, to help create the new menus. Kozlowski, provides all the menu planning and cooking, with the Wiszs' approval.

Breakfast will be served from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and lunch from 11:30 AM to 2 PM.  Breakfast selections include buttermilk pancakes served with real local maple syrup, Chow's chocolate sauce and fresh hand whipped cream ($8.95) or the breakfast burrito, made with eggs, homemade salsa, cilantro, black beans (made with cocoa), sour cream and cheese ($8.95). Breakfast dishes range from $5.29-$8.95.

For the lunch crowd, Chow offers a soup of the day ($5.95) and various sandwiches and wraps, including the new favorite, the salmon wrap, made with smoked salmon, cream cheese, cucumbers, sprouts, greens and dill ($7.95). Lunch meals are $5.95-$10.95.
Chow Chocolat offers specials throughout the week, which are usually more expensive than a typical breakfast or lunch selection ($10.95).

So far, the response has been great. "But just like anything else, it'll take time," Wisz said. The Wiszs' have continued to use natural and organic ingredients in the new menu items.
Fans of Chow's bubble tea will have to wait patiently until the warmer weather begins. The unique drink will now only be sold during the spring and summer.  To warm up during the upcoming winter months, Chow will feature 'hot chocolat' ($3.25). Specialty flavors of the beverage include: cinnamon, cardamom, spicy Aztec (with cayenne pepper), peanut butter, all of which can be topped with homemade whipped cream, and s'mores, topped with handmade marshmallow.

Chow Chocolat is located in the Avalon Building on 731 Main Street. (716) 843-4388

Any plans on dinner hours yet? With the Wine Merchant open late, it would be nice to grab a treat and coffee on the same block after 5pm.

Fantastic News! Everything served at Chow Chocolat is of the very Highest quality. Everything they make is done with the finest ingredients and with great care. The chocolate and sweets are spectacular too. Plus -on top of all that - the owners are kind and so down to earth. I will be going for breakfast and lunch as often as possible.

This is by far the best breakfast I've had in a very long time. Delicious, soft and sweet croissant with egg and perfectly melted cheese; a side of curried potato hash with the perfect melody of spices; and a side of the freshest slices of apples and pears. Every bite was perfectly delectable (and for the right price)- I can't wait to go back and try the rest of their menu!

Did you ask Yuliya (http://www.yukaphotoart.com) for and get permission to use her photograph in conjunction with this article? If so, a link to her website would be appropriate, as well as a more distinct photo credit.

You can do better for talented, local artists.
