The most
requested play at the Irish Classical Theatre Company will open on Friday,
October 30th. Someone Who'll Watch Over Me by Frank McGuinness, was last
presented by ICTC at The Calumet in 1994 to great audience and critical
acclaim.
It's the
story of three strangers - an Irishman, an Englishman and an American - taken
hostage in Lebanon. Their struggle to maintain sanity and survive
by overcoming personal and nationalistic differences is filled with poignancy,
tenderness and humor in this Tony nominated play that gives the audience
pause to consider the futility of war, the depths of man's inhumanity to man
and both the fragility and triumph of the human spirit.
Reflecting
on the play, ICTC Artistic Director Vincent O'Neill said, "This thought provoking
drama is deeply affecting to audiences because it deals with themes that are
both universal and timeless. The author describes the setting as 'A
Cell' and the time as 'Now'. Sadly,
little has changed on the world stage in the fifteen years since ICTC's first
production of the play. It remains as timely and relevant today as
it was then."
This revival, directed by ICTC Associate Director Greg Natale, will star ICTC Artistic Director Vincent O'Neill as Edward, the Irishman;
Lou Colaiacovo as Michael, the Englishman; and Dan Walker as Adam, the
American. The last run of the play at ICTC, directed by Producing Director Fortunato Pezzimenti, starred Vincent O'Neill, Mark Donahue and Richard Wesp.
