Leave a commentwrong doing, revealed two years later. Brown needs to go. However, I'm no fan of Kearns. Why can't we get someone qualified to run???
Why is City Hall important in an era of declining population? Qualified candidates never run for office and citizens pile on an ever-increasing litany of complaints. Dissolve city government and transfer necessary services and functions to the County. Citizens should demand regional government instead of looking for competence in a circus-like atmosphere.
Unfortunately, Albert Einstein's statement -- insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results -- fits too perfectly here.
Why does everyone refer to Stokes as a star basketball player? I never heard his name once before the whole one sunset disaster. If he was such a star why did he need a loan for a measily 160K? Im confused, shouldn't he have tons of his own money if he was such a star? 160k is like an average mortgage, why all the grants and city loans to begin with? This is definatley a case in poor judgement that ruined the chances for funding a legitimate venture to legitmately needy business people. What a joke. I'm sure this has all been said before but I haven't read anything on why he needed loans to begin with.
He never made the NBA, but sounds fair to call him a star on his college team - 2nd team all-star in conference, led his school in a few categories including scoring one year.
witch hunt,
here's why...story hit s press on 3 day weekend...rivera calls a press conference with out giving any details even though he was a cop at the time...franczak is sitting on a letter to the feds...fed investigation takes time to start way past next Tuesday...no one has actually come up with the names and times of the officers afterall they would be able to identify who they delivered stokes to...what if the office wanted to get info from stokes on where he got the parking pass and then made the identification of the woman who was arrested for the theft? Lots of fingers pointing in the air without facts.
Brown is a crook, his podium should be stripped of our city's seal, and be replaced with a list of all his shady dealings.
This scandal is having an effect. Check out this latest poll:

Its both. Brown is corrupt. But the News is on his tail like stink on a monkey.
Why hasn't the news blasted Collins about his ridiculous appointment for the head of Environment and Planning, which was nothing more than a political move, while at the same time screwing over County Planning? Their reporting on that has been much more matter of fact, when compared to their reporting on Brown.
Wrong doing - one of the many....if you don't like this one as a wrong doing, how about forcing city employee's to work for your campaign? Or how about covering up your son's joyride damaging other vehicles? The list can go on......
Any description of the perp?
Was it a political ploy. Absolutely.
Does it make Brown any less guilty. Absolutely NOT.
Lost in all of this, is that the Mayor obstructed an investigation into the theft off 700 handicap passes,
taken from CITY HALL !!!!!
okay geniuos when and where do you get that any obstruction was made when no one has provided names and times and dates? Facts are facts, man, without them its all fabrication pure and simple.
Then why did attorney, Joel Daniels - Mayor Brown's go to guy,
contact the 2 police officers over the weekend that DIDN"T arrest anybody!?!?
Did he? Did Brown? Or is this more flapping of the jaws in the wind?
Re: "without facts it's just fabrication."
No, it's not just fabricated out of thin air. If it were, then Brown would have simply said: "never happened; never met the guy; cops never brought him over; never got him out of a jam. Check my records."
Instead, Brown's refusing to answer the question: did he intervene to get Stokes out of a jam? If so, was that okay? If he did nothing wrong, then he has nothing to hide. No reason for him not to say very forthrightly: "Here's exactly what I did; I did A, B, C, and D, that's all I did, nothing more than that, and all of you can very plainly see: I did absolutely nothing wrong. These pieces of evidence prove it."
But Brown isn't saying that. Instead he's saying: "I checked myself and I'm certain I didn't do anything wrong, but I refuse to tell you any of the facts surrounding the case and it shouldn't matter because whoever is revealing this information just wants to hurt me."
Sure this is politically motivated. That matters not one whit. The motivation of those opposing Brown is they want him out of office. So what? What does that have to do with whether hizonner bent the rules and misrepresented his relationship with this favored individual the city subsequently blessed with taxpayer loans which were eventually lost.
If it is in fact true that the cops just came forward, then the timing of the outing of the incident is not politically motivated. Which of course does not mean its not true.
If they came forward a while ago, I too would question the timing. But no matter what the motivation, it's just plain part of the gig - you must address allegations as they arise whether you hate the timing or not.
"If it is in fact true that the cops just came forward, then the timing of the outing of the incident is not politically motivated. Which of course does not mean its not true." Huh? If they just came forward and we still don't know who "they" are, after two years, how can this not be politically motivated? Huh?
There's no doubt its politically motivated. He might be just as guilty, but this is definitely out because of the election.
Also the police union just recently endorsed Kearns. I'd be willing to be there's a correlation there as well.
Its all dirty. Whats so frustrating is that there probably won't be any change away from that whether Brown is in there or not.
there ya go. so what's better? neither maybe
In regards to the timing, politically motivated or not, if he did it than it really doesn't make a difference with the timing of the whole thing.
p.s. I believe he was involved. I think Brown is a smug b@stard, apparently is never aware of whats going on when shady dealings come up, and is just a empty suit who can do nothing but cut ribbons, stand behind podiums, and speak AT the public like they are all idiots and will believe every word he says.
I can't imagine this is a particularly easy thing for rank and file cops to come forward with. I am completely guessing but I am sure once the allegations regarding One Sunset began to stick it made it a tad easier to come forward. Mind you the article is all about speculating and I of course am speculating as to a possible more noble reason to come forward at this time.
"Witch Hunt or Wrongdoing?" Sounds like both.
Wrong doing? Probably. If allegations are true, it sounds like wrong doing by the mayor and the police officers. If he ordered them to not make an arrest, the cops did wrong by not reporting that to the FBI or media when it happened. The cops did wrong in the first place by calling the mayor's office at the request of Mr. Stokes, taking him to City Hall, and not charging him - if all that's what happened. The mayor did wrong by asking the police to bring Stokes to his office - if that's what happened. The FBI should investigate the actions of the mayor, his staff, and the police.
Witch hunt? Definitely. The motive of the police officers staying silent about it until a week before an election speaks for itself.
Ironically, if the cops made this public when it happened it might have damaged the mayor even more politically because he wouldn't have as good a claim that the accusation is political. The timing wouldn't have been close to an election but it could have had more impact if it encouraged a stronger opponent to run.
I dont think that Kearns has the political machine to go after Brown.
I cant see why the police, fire, teachers or any of the city unions would go after Brown...he has done everything possible to get rid of the control board and direct the city tax funds to new union contracts...evn promising all the revenue from the Buffalo Casino to the unions instead of using it for infrastructure and job creation.
I cant see the democratic party going after Brown...as he kisses so much tush of the albany and democratic party machine...its no wonder his last name is Brown.
African American Community is solidly behind him.
Who exactly is there to target Brown?
In my opinion this is legitimate abuse of power and corruption and nothing else.
this man is such a fool of course he became agitated and yelled at the news crew. he is nothing without steve casey next to him telling him what to say. a perfect example of not being able to handle the tough questions, oh sorry urkel, did the news anchor forget to prep you for this interview??
Brown has been lying since the day his son stole the car keys, if there was no podium, would you ever hear or see him? I would say out of all the loser Mayers in the country, he pretty much tops the list.
i can point my finger. it's quite easy to find something to point it at when you have a circle and x amount of targets to aim for.
the only way to rebuild buffalo is to burn it to the ground again.
It is so obvious that LS is BB lover. When will they come out?
