Two Great Tastes, One Great Place: Snack Shack Mashes Up with Quaker Bonnet

Leave a commentI'm surprised they're still open. I've tried to eat there several times in the last couple months except everytime I go they're closed. Breakfast time, lunch time, dinner time, doesn't matter they were closed, I stopped trying.
Elena,
Thanks for the lovely press. Mark and I have been chatting for a while about a merger. I was delighted when he approached me. His presence gives the Sunday brunches that our customers have been asking for, and an evening menu that I wanted to be extricated from. Mark has that wonderful rye personality that can deal with the chaos of the kitchen with humor and grace. We have never had a full time chef on board. He has the experience and is willing to put in the time.
Wifi and wine and beer are a help with his casual menu and we're still featuring old QB standards like Chicken pot pie.
I have no idea who Verdan is, but after 31 years in business and a successful following both in Buffalo and in our national wholesaling division, perhaps Verday is jus green with jealousy. I have employees who have been on staff for over 20 years and often deal with old employees who come back for part time gigs or recommendations as they move on.
I'm not sure if brownteeth is referring to the Eatery or the Shack, but we always open at 8am and have closed at 5pm for the last 6 years unless we have a large catering function going on.

Liz, I was referring to the Eatery. There were a few weekends where my girlfriend and I wanted to try a new place for breakfast and the Eatery was closed every time. I will give it another go perhaps this Sunday.
Business must be slow if Liz has time to respond to 1 negative comment. I know she took it personal, becasue it was more of an attack on her then her business. I still think it looks bush league for someone who has been in business for 31 years to respond to something so stupid.
Liz and Mark are both unique characters, but thats what makes Allentown what it is. A great mix of eclectic business owners, artisans, and residents that thrive in a place where we embrace all of our differances. Somehow it all just works. I'm not saying that I wasn't surprised that these two hooked up, but maybe it was the kick in the pants they both needed. Good luck.
Great Allentown eatery.. nice to know they will have a dinner menu available as well. Place is one of kind in downtown Bflo..always open for lunch by the way; not exactly sure why anyone would say otherwise..
Dear Brownteeth,
I can't remember a saturday morning where we were not there at 8 inless it was a holiday weekend when we were closed- possibly the 4th of July. We did close early on several Saturdays in the summer due to Catering events. Thanks for giving us another shot.
No business owner should ignore either positive or negative comments. To those who support us my sincere thanks. To those who have negative things to say, my mother always said if you can't say something nice, don't say anything. So to our detractors, thank you for your constructive criticism.
To Newell and Elena, our sincwere thanks for all you do for this community.

Good luck with this venture, it sounds really good!
it is extremely unprofessional for a business owner to come on and argue people on a website. And honestly I can say that I've seen the business closed many times. However that is not the point of my comment. As a professional, you should be above a petty arguement, would you do so if that person was in your actual business?? Given you reaction to this, I would probably never come to your location now, (if it was even open). I should think that having a catering event should not make you have to close early, or perhaps you are understaffed and therefore do not have an effective business plan......But again as a busines owner, you should not be having an arugment wtih a potential customer, you should be taking these comments as constructive criticism and try to improve your business. It sounds like you have only been in business for 31 years simply because of luck and a good location, not because of your business prowness.
Having grown up with (and grown older with) Quaker Bonnet I can only tell you the food is always fresh and tasty, the cinnamon ice cream amazing, and the staff many of whom I've watched grow up and grow older (just like me) always friendly and funny. And now they're serving Sunday brunch. I'm a happy camper and always enjoy my visits to the Quaker Bonnet

I'm thinking that neither can make it alone, so they are joining forces in order to survive. Yes?
I'm thinking Liz has her hands full with a multitude of things (catering, retail, the restaurant) and Mark would rather be welcomed into an established restaurant where he doesn't pay rent, but adds to the greater good with a revved up menu, longer hours, and a more diverse customer base.
Would chocolate and peanut butter each have survived without the advent of the peanutbutter cup? Probably.
Having dealt with Her Royal Abrasion over the past 20 years, and knowing her personality (such as it is), I'd say that Bauer will be kicked back into the street within a year.
Run, Mark, run !! :)
