Something Cool for Restaurant Week: Dundee Ale Oktoberfest

Something Cool for Restaurant Week: Dundee Ale Oktoberfest
For too long, wine had been hogging the spotlight.  Restaurants told you which wine paired best with which food.  We beer drinkers were left in the dark.  But then the day came when someone noticed that delicious craft beer could achieve a great relationship with food in exactly the same way wine could.

As Jason Drewniak of Dundee Ales and Lagers said, "It's beer's turn."

So when you go to Buffalo Restaurant Week September 21st to the 28th, you might see Dundee's Oktoberfest on the menu.  It's full bodied, sweet, and malty.  "Heavy," if you want to simplify it.  And it matches well with heartier fare, like steak and potatoes, a lamb dish, or even Mexican food.

Dundee is brewed in Rochester and distributed only in New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.  Here in Buffalo, you can find it at Wegman's, Tops, Consumer's Beverage, and bars such as Cole's and WJ Morrissey's. By the glass, in six-packs and in a 12-bottle craft packs Dundee offers an entire rainbow of delicious beer-y goodness.

Seriously? How is this even worth mentioning? A below average beer made by a large regional brewer is being offered in restaurants... wow! If you want to put some beer articles up, maybe focus on southern tier. They actually produce beer that taste good, or as said above a highlight of local retailers who are offering excellent selections for local consumers.

Yeah, if BRO won't even mention restaurants on the north side of Kenmore Avenue, then for sure Rochester should get its own "Rising" site.

If you want a Buffalo-brewed Oktoberfest beer, check out Flying Bison's "Baron von Bisonfest". It's good!

I enjoyed a few Brooklyn Oktoberfest brews the other night, pretty tasty. I haven't seen them on the shelves yet, but I highly recommend the Paulaner Oktoberfest, one of the best I have tried.

Best octoberfest imo is baron von bisonfest @ flying bison. Malty but not too heavy or sweet. Could be FBs best brew next to their barnstormer pale ale. A distant second octoberfestwould be the one made by Great Lakes

Dundee is owned by the former High Falls brewery which also makes Genny. It's been rebranded since J.W. Dundee's Honey Brown Lager failed. Their brewing is quite pitiful, especially their Christmas Ale offering. I gotta agree with iluvpitbulls that Great Lakes Oktoberfest, like all their beer, is the way to go. Def try the Glockenspiel.
