Opening Reception for Exhibitions @ Buffalo Arts Studio

Opening Reception for Exhibitions @ Buffalo Arts Studio
On Saturday, September 12th, the Buffalo Arts Studio (2495 Main Street) will host an opening reception for three new exhibitions from 7 PM until 10 PM. The event will also feature talks by the artists from 7 PM until 8 PM.

Exhibitions by the following artists will be on display until October 31st.

Ricardo Miranda Zúñiga's two-part exhibition, Breaking News, explores the re-interpretation of constant information we know as "current events." The artist's interest in how living in a media saturated world affects us lead to a new literacy workshop with children between the ages of 6 to 9-years-old at Buffalo's Gloria J. Parks Community Center. Breaking News features drawings, collages, video content and other documentation from the workshop.

Charmaine Wheatley's exhibit, RAWR, features watercolor and collage drawings inspired by her work with Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County, Inc. According to the organization, one in three residents of Buffalo is functionally illiterate. RAWR brings these shocking statistics and the experience of Literacy Volunteers to life, revealing how illiteracy affects freedom, self-esteem, poverty and crime.

Western New York Book Arts Collaborative Members Exhibition is the city's newest non-profit cultural site. WNYBAC strives to promote, encourage and develop printing and book-related arts through education and access for artists and communities with active programs such as lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and more. The organizations workshops and supply shop are open to the public with studio access for members. At the Buffalo Arts Studio, WNYBAC will showcase a wide range of book arts.

The reception is free and open to the public.
