Kick Off the Semester with Live Music!

Kick Off the Semester with Live Music!

It's official!  College is back in session and that means late night cram sessions, too much caffeine and, of course, spending your weekends exploring Buffalo's popular music scene.  As students search for commonalities among new peers, music can bring all of us together!

For those of you new to Buffalo and anyone who hasn't been out this summer, I'd like to introduce you to a household name in the city's music scene, Free Henry!.

Known for their tight compositions and high-energy performances, the sounds of Free Henry! soar into the listener's soul to create an everlasting sensation and imprint.  I had an opportunity to first hear them play last year at the University at Buffalo outdoor music festival and ever since then, the band has been featured at the biggest music events all summer!

This weekend provides the opportunity to not only experience Free Henry! once but twice!  The band will be performing Friday, September 4th, 11PM at Mr. Goodbar (21 and over) on Elmwood Avenue.  After their best summer yet, Free Henry! will certainly bring just the right groove to the beginning of the college year!  "The Henries" will bring their signature wild yet focused vibe to Mr. Goodbar's intensely receptive audience!

If you miss Mr. Goodbar or just can't get enough, you can join them and their fans on the Erie Basin Marina waterfront.  This show starts at 6 PM sharp, Saturday, at Shanghai Red's.  It's a free show and open to all ages.

Last week lead singer Bob Buckley met with me at Sweetness 7 Cafe on Grant Street.  He explained Free Henry!'s goal as a Buffalo band:

"When the band collectively performs on stage, there is a certain energy which can be felt.  Night after night I look forward to getting on stage and providing a true experience for the fans."

I also asked him what it was like to be on such a heavy summer touring schedule.  "We kicked off our summer this year with Better Than Ezra at Thursday at the Square. What a great way to start the tour season!  From there we just kept the ball rolling...had the chance to play with The Guess Who at Artpark...jammed with Rusted Root & Vertical Horizon in Niagara Falls, all I can say is that I have a wonderful job that I truly love, and this year has been one to remember.  We are so thankful and grateful to do what we do and perform for all of our fans."

Please visit Free Henry!'s website. I hope you can catch them live this weekend!
