The Wind Action Group works to educate local residents on issues related to wind power in WNY, allowing them to form educated opinions on this renewable power source and to voice their concerns. The group also investigates issues related to wind power and advocates for its development. It was originally formed by Buffalo's Green Gold Development Corporation from recommendations found in Wind Energy Initiatives for Greater Buffalo.
At the meeting, the group will discuss its plans for the Elmwood Festival of the Arts, which takes place August 29th and 30th. Volunteers are needed for this event, so come ready to sign up and help!
The meeting will also provide participants with an update on the NYPA Offshore Wind Proposal and will discuss the future of the group in regards to its legal structure. With the Community Foundation for a Greater Buffalo's recent establishment of an Energy Task Group, which deals with many of the same issues as WAG, talk will also center on whether or not to fold the WAG into this larger effort. WAG leaders will entertain comments or concerns on the matter at the August meeting.
For more information on the meeting or the Wind Action Group, contact them on this Web page. Information can also be found concerning how to join the group and volunteer for any of their committees - Communication, Environment, Finance, Fundraising, Engineering, Government Relations and Legal.

Leave a commentI say windmill up the lake...on the Canadian side :)
wind speeds are higher and steadier out on the water.. that is probably their main driving force to place them in the lake as opposed to next to the lake.

Does anyone know why the wind farm is being proposed offshore? Is this in reaction to NIMBYs (not in my back yard) push back? This would be MUCH more expensive to construct and maintain than a wind farm on terra firma.
The proposal seeks "a developer to be responsible for permitting, siting, constructing, operating and maintaining the wind turbines and towers and assuming all development, construction and operating risks associated with the project. As the project will likely be located in water depths of at least 50 feet, the design and construction of the support structure and foundation are critical to a successful project."
And, what about the environmental impacts...I'm sure there's an endangered fish, marine bird, or insect that'll be affected...lessons learned from the Peace Bridge fiasco.
