Silent Exchange Is Anything But

Silent Exchange Is Anything But
Music enthusiasts who are sick of the mainstream (Daft Punk/Madonna mashups at La Luna every Wednesday) and dull (Chippewa loves "Pour Some Sugar On Me") have cause to celebrate.  Silent Exchange, an "all day, open air electronic music and art event," will be taking place on August 29th at the Rock Harbor Commons Village.

The event is sure to be a radical deviation from the norm.  Organizer and creator Meghan Mann espouses a new aesthetic, one that she employs to find a solution to what she sees as a lack in the Buffalo music scene: "My plan - the Silent Exchange concept - is meant to focus on what is missing: the simplistic, low key, underground, and more accessible side of the music and art scene. Buffalo does do a great job in introducing people to the mainstream sound, but Silent Exchange will open the door to a new experience - to an encounter with unconventional and unexplored surroundings where people can have direct access and a unique connection with the music and art around them."

Sounds sweet to me.  The event will run from 12 PM to 10 PM and feature five DJs: Mazi, Soul Clap, and Nico Jaar, as well as Buffalonians Bill Bacon and Michael Parker.  $10 gets you good music, a chance to see some great local artwork (artist lineup forthcoming), and cheap food and drinks- grilled food is $2, on compostable utensils donated by Chudy Paper.  The concert will be 18 and older, and of course you must be 21 to drink.

Far be it from me to tell you how to live your life, but here's what I think would be a nice ending to the summer.  Hop on your bike and Critical Mass your way down to Rock Harbor, hang out with some cool people, support the local art and music scene, and get a chance to see some of the new developments taking place in the Black Rock community.

Just one more reason I want a t-shirt that reads "Black Rock, Est 1820" on the front and "Not for F+++ing Yuppies" on the back. Two big thumbs up!

Ill take one!.....the date should read Est. 1802 Two years before Joseph Ellicott laid out the streets of Buffalo and fourteen years before it was incorporated as a village, the village of Black Rock was founded. New York State purchased the mile wide strip of Indian land along the Niagara River and this area was very well known as Black Rock around the entire country during the war of 1812 and before that the Native Americans lived around the Black Rock.
