Guy Fieri Dives into Lake Effect Diner

Guy Fieri Dives into Lake Effect Diner
Guy Fieri from The Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives stopped by at Lake Effect Diner this morning.  Since interviewing Tucker Curtin a couple of weeks ago, we've been a regular at the diner.  This morning, the parking lot was packed and roped off. Parked in front was a beautiful red Camero. I was surprised to see Fieri's signature blond hair through the door. I thought, "My morning just got interesting." Inside, Fieri entertained kids with magic tricks, joked around with the diners, and posed for pictures with fans.

After we sat down and ordered our food, Fieri stopped in front of us to prep some tea.  I took the opportunity to do a little probing. Fieri looked tired, but told me that he's been reading a lot about Buffalo.  Even though he said he was "running on empty" Fieri was still really nice and patient with all the fans and the diners.  Fieri wouldn't tell me where he was going next, but he did try to change the subject by joking around with us.

I spoke briefly to Fieri about the local farm movement that the owner, Tucker Curtin was a part of.  Fieri had been aware of that, and he was also very adamant about using local farms.  "We have to bring local farms to the table!" His producers grabbed him for an interview with Curtin, and quickly after that, he pulled away in his Camero.

First Anthony Bourdain, now Guy Fieri.  Buffalo is finally in the spotlight for something else other than wings!

Awesome, I always loved Lake Effect. I hope he checks out Vizzi's, that would be perfect for this show.

He was taping something about Bills tailgating on Saturday. He went around to a few pre-chosen, well known tailgates for some show. Surprised to hear he is still in the area and doing to restaurants.

I was there early this morning while Guy was entertaining a nice young man from Make A Wish. It was great to see this kid really enjoy being in the presence of a "celebrity chef". I sadly missed the crowd, but they sure were line dup outside. Good for the Curtins!

As for other WNY restaurants Guy will be featuring, Andrew Galarneau covered that yesterday in the Sunday paper. You can check it out over there. Erin Curtin explained to me that they interview a lot of restaurants in a particular region, but only a few make the cut. They obviously want to choose unique and interesting places, but the joint also has to be willing to close for a good portion of the day (sometimes during lunch or dinner) which surprisingly, some are not.

Saw Guy up at the Whirlpool Jet boats on Sunday. I wish these celebrity chefs would stop following me around.

I don't get why he was even at Lake Effect, it's awful. Always smells like a wet dog in that hole. Anyway, nice write-up Chao.

Love the show. I think Guy is funny. Was kinda surprised they chose the Lake Effect. Haven't been there myself - so I can't comment on the food either way - but thought there was a ton of other places they should've picked.

Regardless - great exposure for Buffalo!!!!
