Good News! More Cool Stuff To Do At The Harbor

Yes, we've heard so much about how Buffalo doesn't utilize its waterfront as well as it could.  And while it's true that the situation is still improving, the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation has added MORE activities to its already impressive list of things to do down there, so you don't have an excuse to spend so little time on Lake Erie. 

Not only do they offer concerts, festivals, and various other special events, but the ECHDC has announced upcoming lecture series detailing epic storms, shipwrecks, and lighthouses, as well as sunset celebrations.  There will also be musical theater and plays, beginner and intermediate level yoga classes, more live music performances, and the Theatre Alliance of Buffalo will provide entertainment.

  • August 15 and September 12:  Buffalo Weather Experience Center Lecture
  • Every Sunday through August 30:  Intermediate and beginner yoga
  • August 21:  Canal Connections!  By the Theatre Alliance of Buffalo
  • August 28, 29, 30:  Clinton's Ditch: The Story of the Building of the Erie Canal
  • Every Friday and Saturday evening through September 5:  Sunset Celebrations (in the Naval Park)
  • August 5 and 19:  Wednesdays on the Waterfront live music series on the USS Little Rock
  • September 7:  Fleet Feet/USA Masters 15K Road Race (pre-register here)
And there's more!  You can throw a party on the Spirit of Buffalo.  Or go kayaking for the opportunity to see Buffalo from a completely new perspective!

Looks like there's plenty more great activities to keep us occupied this summer!

I'm glad to see more stuff moving here. I'm hoping that next year they will move the full lineup of Thursday in the Square to the waterfront. In Nashville they have a stage set on a barge in the Cumberland river. I think Buffalo should do something similar.

Went Sat. for my first concert (Bruce Hornsby) here- it was a great venue even with free parking adjacent to Shanghai Reds lot.

Worth $10 to screen out the riff raff and not have such a big crowd.

I like Just Pizza but what they were serving looked so sad! They can do better!

Saturday was my first Harbor concert..

I was pleased with the music and the setting, however I now know that when I go to such an event (if I ever go again) I will be getting there at 9pm.

I understand Buffalo Place is trying to make their money from the vendors, but when you sit around and wait 30 minutes between opening acts and an hour between Martin Sexton and Bruce Hornsby, it's a little overboard. Especially when the stage was already set-up with instruments.

I did not purchase any items from vendors other than a bottle of Coke when I arrived mostly because of the delay and I knew that was their reasoning to increase revenue. I would have been more inclined to buy something if the bands started sooner.

Please DO NOT move the full lineup of Thursday in the Square to the waterfront! Paying $10 is worth not having to deal with all the riff raff that TATS attracts! Seeing a band at this venue would be worth at least $25.

Any plans for a permanent stage/band shell? Would save construct/destruct costs, support quality sound system.

Loved the Black Crowes concert.

It is a great venue for music. No word on whether or not it will be permanent, but who knows, if it becomes well-attended enough, there could be a significant increase in events!

anyone ever been to molson ampitheater in toronto? waayyyy better venue to see summer concerts than darien lake. not saying a comparable venue to M.A. would work on the water in buffalo, but it's food for thought.

p.s. on the topic of darien lake, that ampitheater is garbage. i'd rather see a summer concert at the arena. anyone who has ever been to saratoga performing arts center, red rocks, or the gorge in WA would agree that darien is like gum on your shoe.
