Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center Hosts Horse Show

Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center Hosts Horse Show
From September 9th through September 13th, the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center will host the 63rd Annual Buffalo International Horse Show, a "AA" rated competition by the United States Equestrian Federation. The event caters to riders of all ages, divisions and skill levels, with all proceeds benefiting the BTRC

The BTRC has the only indoor riding facility in the City of Buffalo, located at 950 Amherst Street. The facility was originally built in 1922 by a group of local businessmen and was named the Saddle and Bridle Club. Before the land was formally donated to the BTRC, a non-profit group, it was used for many things, including a storage facility during World War II. The Buffalo Equestrian Center -- which is located in the same facility and provides education for horses and riders of all abilities -- was also established in 1982 when the land was donated to the BTRC.

The BTRC runs its programs specifically for mentally and physically abused or challenged children from ages 6 to 16. The programs are largely run by volunteers. (If you're interested in becoming a volunteer with the BTRC, click here.)

Besides teaching its participants skills in horseback riding, the BTRC hopes to better their lives as well. In its mission statement, the group says, "Our goal with each student is to increase their self esteem and self confidence." It's also a premier accredited center by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association.

The Buffalo International Horse Show includes a number of classes and divisions, including two special hunter classics this year: the $500 "Full Monty" Pony Hunter Classic for ponies and child riders, and the $1000 "Full Monty" Adult Hunter Classic for amateur riders at the 3-foot level. Don't miss the 63rd annual event!
