Brewfest! (Beer!) Entertainment! (Beer!) Food! (Beer!)

Brewfest! (Beer!) Entertainment! (Beer!) Food! (Beer!)

Buffalo Brewfest 2009 will be, bigger, better and almost more fun than you can handle!

This Saturday, August 8th, from 2PM to 6PM, Brewfest will take place at the HSBC Arena Pavilion on the 2nd floor and the plaza area outside, in addition to the 1st floor.  There will be MORE space, MORE food and MORE beer this year.  Last year's organizers said that 3,000 showed at the door and some who showed later were turned away, but the addition of the plaza along with the 1st and 2nd floor should create ample room this year.

Live music will be provided on the plaza by Black Widow Band, with special appearances by the Buffalo Jills, Buffalo Bandettes, and the Queen Gity Roller Girls.

Tickets are a mere $30 presale and $40 at the door. This year's event will feature several food pavilions with Brewfest beer inspired food items as follows:

·Grilled Beer Hot Dog glazed with a beer reduction, served with a beer meat sauce and onions caramelized in beer

·Nachos Supreme served with a beer cheese sauce

·Beer Battered Onions Rings, accompanied by a beer dip

·Beer Braised Brisket

·Beer Braised Kielbasa served with beer boiled sauerkraut

·Fudge Brownie made with a dark stout beer

There will also be cash and prize drawings; all Buffalo Brewfest tickets holders will be entered into a free prize drawing (with completion of a ticket the day of the event) for a Flying Bison "Brewer for a Day" package.

In addition to cash drawings, there will be separate drawings for 10 custom handpainted Adirondack Chairs (painted by local artists specifically for Brewfest). These chairs will be displayed at the event. Example below:

Looks WAAAYYYYYY too crowded!

That was a picture from last year's event and yes, it was very crowded. That's why the committee has worked hard, to ensure that this year, as mentioned in the article, there is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH MORE SPACE and many new additions have been added to make this year's event much better. Check out www.askbhsc.org/buffalobrewfest for all the great details.

It was awful last year which we are not going again... ever! The Fire Marshall should have been called in as they were very unsafe conditions as you can see in the picture. Very poor planning on the part of BHSC.

which is why they said above that they have made accommodations for the mishaps last year....

Correct, we have tripled the space and have stationed brewers throughout the entire venue this year. You will have lots more breathing room and will actually be able to socialize more and enjoy your sampling. We hope you will give it another chance as we have worked really hard to address everyone's concerns from last year.

I must say this and I say if from the heart of a Buffalonian.

You wont find to many other cities in this nation where the entire city gathers together, whether its a beer get together downtown or at the Central Terminal, or a festival or a museum.

Any company looking to relocate or any potential employee discouraged from medium sized cities and rust belt towns MUST COME TO GATHERINGS.

Further in any other city, a person would use these gatherings to network for a job, or be judged by their income or hunt for date BUT BUFFALOS EVENTS ARE UNLIKE ELSEWHERE. BUFFALONIANS SOCIALIZE WITHOUT JUDGEMENT OR FACADE! THEY SHARE THEIR BEER AND THEIR JOKES REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOU WORK, WHERE YOU LIVE, WHAT YOUR INCOME OR HOW ATTRACTIVE YOU ARE....WE BUFFALONIANS KEEP IT REAL AND WE KEEP IT CASUAL.

And we Buffalonians, true to our blue collar roots have always joined together southside, eastside, westside, northside...whenever a there is food and drink.

Isnt it a shame...that our city can unite so beautifully socially but have absolutely no civic muscle or influence over the economic and political future of our city and region. That to me is a real mystery. Its as if we care about the joys of living life but not the mechanics and infrastructure that give us those joys of life...content to leave it to the elites to decide what is best for us.

Two things:

1. I agree with the comments: last year was awfully crowded, but I'm hoping that the festival runs more smoothly this year. I have my tickets and I'm giving it another chance. Two years ago it was fantastic.

2. While I appreciate food and fancy chairs, we're less than a week out and a list of brewers / beers still hasn't been released. It's a Brewfest, could we hear about the brews?

I agree! The website hasn't been updated since last year, and yeah, where's the list of brewers?

Believe it or not, some of us do care who's going to be there.

Actually the website has been updated and has been for a while. Go to www.askbhsc.org/buffalobrewfest for all the details (the old website has been linked to this for several weeks now). On there is a list of breweries committed as of yesterday. We cannot post the beers they will be bringing as many of the breweries decide that the day before the event or change a the last minute based on product availability. What information we have confirmed will be printed in the program for your reference the day of the event.

With regards to paying for beer.. in addition to your ticket, you are given 20 tasting tickets with your purchase price which is the equivalent of approximately 5-6 12oz. beers. After that, the tickets are $1 each (per sample). Admission price and quantity of tasting tokens has been determined with the assistance of the NYS Brewers Assocation and the guidelines they hold for microbrew sampling events as well as the NYS Liquor Authority requirements. After all, this is meant to be a microbrew sampling event and not a beer free for all.

What must be kept in mind is that this is a charitable event and we hope that we have made the necessary changes that will steadily improve this event as it moves forward so that all involved have an enjoyable experience sampling some great beers for a great cause.

We hope you will decide to join us this Saturday for a truely enjoyable event.

This year the event is more expensive and there (currently) appear to be far fewer breweries than the past two years. I certainly hope that many breweries are going to confirm at the last minute, because otherwise it doesn't look like the extra space will be necessary.

I'd hoped that the event would get bigger and better each year. I don't want to make any pronouncements yet, but looking at the meager list of participants makes me nervous.

Calling it a "Brewfest" implies a "free for all!"
Didn't you ever see the movie Beer Fest?
Here's a sampling--

HSBC Arena seems like an uninteresting venue for this event, particularly in August.

Practical yes, but uninteresting.

And each brewer is bringing 4-6 beers each, several of which are only available at brewfest or in the breweries themselves.

those are pretty good breweries. although since when does Cole's brew their own?

i agree with DMZ. i hate waiting in long lines, and dealing with lots of stupid people. and i like paying beverage prices not oil prices for beer.

however, DMZ. I believe you are overlooking some of the age-old customs of beer. chiefly being:::: SOCIALIZING! and it is a charitable function. people don't shell out $100/ticket for the Red Cross MASH thing because cammies look hot.

beerfests are a great time. when i lived there i don't remember there ever being one. and considering buffalo is a place that realizes there are other beers besides Bud, Bud Light, and Bud Select, it's pitiful that it took so long to get one going.

Maybe you can come over and we can hang out on the internet and attempt to be witty. Maybe we can even over use the word "Fail". I'll start: 30 bucks for 20 shots of beer, long lines for beers (a majority of which you can buy at Tops or Wegmans), and a bunch of people who you would never hang out with in your life = Fail!

Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center would like to invite all those who have ideas for the Buffalo Brewfest to join our 2010 committee. I can be reached at clivecchi@askbhsc.org if you would like to sign up. The more people we have, the better the event.

Have it at the Canal and Harbor next year.

The reason it was moved to a facility location was due to the high cost of renting tents, tables, chairs, portaportties, generators, security, etc. As this is a fundraiser, we had to move the event to a more cost effective venue. But thanks for the suggestion.

Is there a way they could rope off some land outside or extend the drinking area to the DL&W terminal out back? What made last years event so disapointing for me wasnt as much the bland facility or the crowds but being stuck indoors with a cold beer on a sunny summer day. The BCT being an indoor-outdoor venue was so much nicer for this time of year but as you pointed out there were added costs with generators tents etc. If there was a place outside the HSBC arena to drink you could have the best of both worlds.

DMZ....more than likely...people just dont want to drink with you. So sit home, last year was annoying with the crowds but they seem to have listenened to peoples complaints and ill gladly attend this year too

i'm really looking forward to this. whether it's at the terminal or hsbc i don't really care. it definitely is all about a good cause, tasting great beers, good food from what i hear, and chilling with friends. if the roominess situation is corrected it can only go up from last year. i like the idea of moving it to the inner harbor. that's an entirely bigger task that buffalo should quickly finish up to connect the arena, cobblestone district, and inner harbor together. we'd actually look like a real city! i also heard from a friend that queen city roller girls will be there in full force. if you are in buffalo and don't know of qcrg, please check them out. what other town in america celebrates great beer, friends, and has girls skating around beating each other up? only the best!
