'Body Worlds' Breaks Records at Buffalo Museum of Science

‘Body Worlds’ Breaks Records at Buffalo Museum of Science
Back in July, we learned that 'Body Worlds' would be shown at the Buffalo Museum of Science.  The Gunther von Hagens exhibit has attracted 75,000 curious visitors in 43 days.  That's the total attendance for BMoS in 2008!  Well done!

The plucky captured-in-motion bodies underwent a process von Hagens developed and coined "plastination," which he later offered to perform on Pope John Paul II after his demise, though it was turned down.  Madman or brilliant scientist, von Hagens has certainly given the world its most in-depth look at anatomy.

(And while attendance may be up, the science museum just isn't selling beef jerky the way it used to.)

The Body Worlds touring exhibit has attracted 27 million people worldwide, making it the most popular traveling exhibit in the world.  It continues at the Buffalo Museum of Science through October 4th.  For those who would like to become a larger part of this exhibit, see von Hagens' site for body donation.

Great exhibit though I dont have the stomach for it. What amazes me though is that an event like this is heralded by so many as amazing and really becomes a destination by all walks of life yet if you added the skin back all the sudden it would likely be viewed as risque, inappropriate, etc. Amazing what skin does to people and how uptight and subjective people can be. A skinless naked body is somehow better than one with skin? Hmm.
