Mural, Mural on the Wall

Mural, Mural on the Wall
Thanks to a community effort led by members of the Charismatic Center, a hi-profile Grant Street mural is getting a much-needed facelift. Located at the corner of Grant and West Ferry, the mural is representative of an old-world market scene. Thanks to a renewed drive to brand Grant-Ferry as an International Marketplace, the mural has been chosen to broadcast the effort to the neighborhood.

The artwork is being restored by a wide range of volunteers ranging from refugees who live nearby to the Khol's Department Store's A-Team. Kohl's donated $500 to provide the local businesses (led by Lorigo's Meating Place) with the paint to get the job done. I was surprised to hear how long that mural has been around for... thirty years or so? Combined with the old garbage carts, this cleanup effort is really beginning to catch hold on Grant. On the days when that cart is operational on the street, Grant is cleaner than Elmwood.

Who's up for helping paint / repaint the mural at Amherst and Tonawanda? Email me directly if interested.

Is this the old mural in the picture? Is it still possible to get on board with painting a new one?

It is the old mural. They wanted to preserve the original vision and effort. I bet that there are a few more walls on Grant that could use a paint job though.

Didn't there used to be a mural at the West Ferry plaza?

Damn, and I was so excited to think that this spot was getting new life but it's the same tired mural. Too bad
