It's Time for You To Learn Woodturning

It’s Time for You To Learn Woodturning
There was a time when mega-stores weren't available on every street corner.  A time when you couldn't purchase baby clothing, milk, and motor oil in the same store.  And if you wanted a toy, you had to make it yourself.  I'm glad I didn't live during that time.  I enjoy my iPod, is what I'm saying.  But at the same time, I wouldn't mind having some handy craftsman skills when the sun dies and the survivors are left to fashion their own compounds in the woods as protection from the roving bands of cannibals.

That's where the Western New York Woodturners Association comes in.  On Saturday, July 11, from 10 AM to 3 PM, they will demonstrate the craft of woodturning at the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society

Approximately 10 skilled and experienced woodturners will be available to give demonstrations and discuss the history of woodturning.  You will learn how to make pool cues, baseball bats, chess pieces, yo-yo's, tops, furniture pieces, and more.  There will be light snacks.

Admission is free for members and kids under 6, $6 for adults, $4 for age 60+ and age 13-21, and $2.50 for ages 7-12.

I think my cousin, Jim Vasi, may still be one of the main guys behind WNYWT. I cannot believe the wonderful work they do - back to skill sets we have lost to mass production.

Hey, if anyone is interested I have a 36" Craftsman lathe with a Dayton Step Motor for sale - it's an oldie but a goody - great for spindle work - merlin_rodgers@msn.com - $75.00 for both pieces.
