Buffalo's West Side Gets Another Pet Store!

Buffalo’s West Side Gets Another Pet Store!
Massachusetts Avenue is now home to a new pet store in Buffalo. Tango's Pet Store opened last Friday at 246 Massachusetts Avenue on the corner of Normal Avenue. Michelle Giomundo, the store's owner, plans to expand the store in the future and sell live animals, but for now it remains exclusively a pet supply store.

Giomundo lives next door to the shop and saw a need for a neighborhood store like this. As for walkability, the next pet store is a pretty good hike away from Giomundo's neighborhood, and she felt this type of store would succeed in the area.  According to her, the store has been popular in its first week.

I stopped in to Tango's Pet Store -- named after Giomundo's blue and gold macaw -- earlier this week to look around.  I wasn't exactly sure where the shop was located, but the wonderful murals outside (shown above) set it apart from the landscape of the neighborhood.

The shop offers affordable food and supplies for all types of pets, including dogs, cats, fish, reptiles and exotic animals. It is open from 10AM to 6PM Monday through Saturday and 10AM to 5PM Sundays.

Currently, squeaky toys for dogs are on sale. The store's products will also continue to expand in the coming weeks. For more information, please call 716.886.0965.

Please do not sell dogs or cats here. Most people know by now where pet shop dogs come from, please Tango's... do not add to the problem! Instead, allow rescues to show their adoptable cats there and hold dog adoption events. Educate people on how to properly choose a responsible breeder or where to adopt from a reputable rescue.

Otherwise, it is great to see a new business opening and taking a chance. Wish them well.

Please do not sell animals in this store. I live in the neighborhood and I can verify that it is an animal mistreatment disaster hellhole neighborhood. Sorry - but i have been in the area for over thirty years and I am not exaggerating. There are a tiny few good animal caretakers but the majority are horrendous.

Great suggestions. I would support this store for treats, fish, etc. But please be respectful of the animals!

The owner told me she refuses to sell larger animals, like dogs or cats. She does hope to sell smaller animals like fish or reptiles.
