14th Street Tree Farm Celebrates Its Success

14th Street Tree Farm Celebrates Its Success
After the Garden Walk on this Saturday, July 25th, you can keep enjoying the wonders of nature by heading over to the 14th Street Tree Farm, located 307 14th Street between Vermont and Rhode Island. PUSH Buffalo and Re-Tree Western New York are hosting a celebration for the tree farm's continued success from 4PM to 7PM.

On Saturday, staff members from PUSH and Re-Tree will be on hand to grill up some food and serve the drinks. This is a family-friendly event, so both groups encourage you to bring the whole family along!

Since the October storm of 2006 devastated the greenery of our entire Western New York region, the 14th Street Tree Farm has provided a continuous source of trees to help beautify Buffalo's street. In addition, the farm also gives employment opportunities to the neighborhood's youth.

The tree farm is a joint project by Re-Tree WNY, Grassroots Gardens, The Buffalo Green Fund and the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo. The 14th Street Tree Farm is also part of PUSH's Healthy Neighborhood Concept Plan, which aims to turn vacant spaces into productive green spaces. Rain gardens, bike facilities, park upgrades and street art are other examples of the efforts of these entities to improve both the beauty and functionality of vacant spaces throughout the city.

Re-Tree WNY works to re-forest every area destroyed by the October storm because of the numerous benefits trees can bring to a community. Among other benefits, trees can help conserve energy, improve water quality, act as a natural barrier for increased privacy, increase property values and add natural beauty to a neighborhood.

So come celebrate the 14th Street Tree Farm's success in Buffalo! For more information on the tree farm, check out some of our previous stories
