Nest Interiors Has Lofty Goals

Nest Interiors Has Lofty Goals
Does anyone remember when Knoll Office Interiors had a showroom on Delaware? Not since that company left has the city had a truly modern design center located in a hi-profile spot. I'm talking about the type of design work that you would see in Dwell Magazine or Metropolitan Home with modulars and built-ins. I've known about Nest Interiors ever since reading this article back in July, though I never made it over to the Buffalo Design Collaborative to see their operation. Fortunately all I really had to do was to wait since they are opening a second design showroom on Allen Street. The location will be dedicated to residential interior design and should help to quench loft livers' newfound thirst for custom contemporary interiors. From owner/designer Brooke Pelc:

"I'm still keeping my office studio in the Buffalo Design Collaborative (443 Delaware Avenue) for commercial work. The residential work will be based out of Allen Street. I've been in the collaborative for a year, although the collaborative has been around for five years. The Allen Street concept is going to be 'naturally modern'. I'm paying a lot of attention to the products that I'm buying - when I can, I will purchase eco-friendly, US made products.  Almost all of my furniture lines are out of North Carolina. I always look at working standards behind the products. I try to keep things made in the US whenever possible. There are not a lot places around where people go and find true urban designs... the Allen Street design center is going to have a relaxed modern focus. And I want to keep a full range of price points.

"Nest will be offering a lot of products that can be custom ordered for our clients, and we have some lines that are exclusive to us in Buffalo. As a designer I need to be able to find the right products for our customers. It might be a little bit more of a wait, but in the end it will be well worth it. I'll be doing kitchen and bath design out of our new location too. Currently, I'm working with a cabinet maker out of Saint Catherines who custom crafts the work.

"In addition to walk-ins and catalogues, I'll be offering hosting parties and functions where specialists will come in and talk. I always try to look at things differently. I'll continue to do the commercial projects like the Evans Bank on Elmwood - that's an example of my work. I always hated going to traditional banks, so I wondered why banking should have to be such a bad experience... why can't the interiors of banks look like the interiors of cool hotels? That's what we set out to do for Evans National Bank (see interior). As of early August I'll be able to offer the same sort of residential standards in Allentown."

What's wrong with cabinets made in Western NY? Why Saint Catherines?
