Hoyt Secures Major Victory For Buffalo Public Schools

Assemblyman Sam Hoyt (D-Buffalo) announced today that the New York State Assembly has approved legislation that would deliver $250 million for the final phase of the Joint Schools Reconstruction Project.

Hoyt's legislation provides financial assistance and flexible financing for the Joint Schools Construction Board to enable major capital improvements and updates to nine schools.

"Investing in our schools is the surest way to ensure a bright future for our community as a whole. This legislation is the crucial final piece in delivering over one billion dollars in significant improvements for Buffalo's schools," Hoyt said.

This is the second year in a row that Hoyt has delivered for Buffalo schools. Hoyt also helped broker a deal last year to secure Governor Paterson's approval for Phase IV of the Joint Schools Reconstruction Project.

"With today's vote we are one step closer to realizing the final phase of the Joint Schools Reconstruction Program," said Eugene Partridge, executive vice president at LP Ciminelli, and head of the Joint Schools Construction Program. "This legislation must still pass the State Senate before it can be sent to the Governor to be signed into law."

"Despite the chaos in the State Senate, my colleagues and I in the Assembly have worked hard to pass this legislation that improves the quality of education for Buffalo's schoolchildren," Hoyt said.

The Joint Schools Reconstruction Project began in 2003 and, according to some estimates, has created over 1000 jobs in Buffalo to date.

Assemblyman Sam Hoyt represents the 144th Assembly District.

I wouldn't count on this happening any time soon. Not with the way the Senate is acting like a playground full of kids. Thanks again Tommy G.
