Buffalo Tours Inaugural Summer Season

Buffalo Tours Inaugural Summer Season
Get the inside scoop on Buffalo neighborhoods through Buffalo Tours, who are announcing their first ever summer schedule.  Every Sunday starting at 2 they will tour a different WNY neighborhood for a cost of $10 per adult and $5 per student.  Your fee goes to Preservation Buffalo Niagara.

Whether you are new to Buffalo or have lived here your whole life, Buffalo Tours would like to introduce or reintroduce you to some of the neighborhoods that make up our community. The Neighborhood Tour Series, new for 2009, is to design just that.

In addition to ongoing tours listed below, Buffalo Tours is also offering several tours this weekend:

Southern Exposure. 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27.  This brand new tour explores South Buffalo, from Red Jacket's Indian burial ground to interior views of neighborhood churches. Optional lunch and trivia contest at The Blackthorn following the tour. Meet at Buffum Street & Fields Avenue (take Seneca Street to Buffum).

Queen City Saturdays. 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 27.  Get the downtown story from the waterfront origins to the newest developments today. Meet at the Visitor Center, 617 Main Street.

Millionaire's Row. 10:00 a.m., Sunday, June 28.  Learn how the other half lived in this National Historic District. Meet at Delaware Avenue and North Street.

This weekend and beyond:

Ashland and Norwood on June 28 and August 23.  Meet at the Unitarian Universalist Church on West Ferry and Elmwood. This particular area was an escape from the densely packed older neighborhoods.  It was built between 1880 and 1900.

The West Village will be toured on July 5 and September 27 by meeting at Johnson Park and S. Elmwood.  This beautiful neighborhood was commissioned by Buffalo's first mayor, Ebenezer Johnson, in 1824.  It contains beautiful examples of Victorian Gothic and other styles of architecture.

Tour Porter Avenue on July 12 and Sept 6.  Porter is home to Kleinhans, First Presbyterian Church, State Normal School, and Plymouth Methodist School.  Meet at Porter and Niagara Street.

The always popular Bidwell Park: Circle to Circle tour will be held on July 19 and September 13.  Bidwell Park is named for Civil War Brigadier General Daniel Bidwell.  They will discuss the history of the parkway and architecturally significant homes.
