Buffalo ReUse Seeking Board Members

Buffalo ReUse Seeking Board Members

Buffalo ReUse , begun on 2007, is a not-for-profit organization that does community work throughout Erie County.  The organization does work in environmental and educational fields and is volunteer run.  Since its inception, Buffalo ReUse has saved tons of materials from landfills and conducted educational programs for both children and adults in hopes of making them aware of environmentally sound practices.

"We offer free workshops on do-it-yourself projects, have planted hundreds of trees [and] worked with buffalo public school children who painted murals on boards, which we used to board up vacant homes in close proximity to schools," founding board member, Michele Johnson said.  "We take great pride in being very active in the community and teaching residents about gardening, composting and recycling."  ReUse has also "worked with children via the summer youth program and run a salvaged materials store," according to Johnson.  The combination of all of these things truly makes Buffalo ReUse a unique organization.

The organization is now seeking new board members who will serve a two-year term, with the possibility of a second term.  The terms are normally limited to two to really keep the organization going with new and fresh ideas and give everyone a chance to get as involved and contribute as much as they so choose.  Board members are responsible to attend one board meeting a month to keep new and active ideas flowing.  They also participate in one of the committees of their choice.  In other words, they are looking for board members who are "creative, community minded and love making a difference."

Although serving on the board of directors is limited to two terms, all of the former board members remain involved in some way, shape or form after having such wonderful experiences through the organization, why would you want to leave?  "We guarantee you will learn something new and meet some great people too," Johnson said.

Buffalo ReUse is also seeking new committee members, who get involved to successfully carry out their objectives of the both the committee and the organization.

"As a founding board member I can tell you that my work with Buffalo ReUse has not only been exciting but extremely rewarding," Johnson said.  There is much to get out of this organization through giving back to the community.  With much to be learned, and much to do, why not get involved?

For those interested in becoming a board member,  submit a resume and cover letter with highlighted areas of interest and relevant experience to Stephanie Simeon, Board President, at Stephanie.simeon@gmail.com by Monday, June 8th.
