Buffalo ReUse: A New Kind of Ladies' Night
Comments
Leave a commentAre men allowed? It seems a bit sexist to not allow men... i'm intimidated at becoming a first time homeowner, but am definitely interested in learning about the process in buying/rehabbing neglected properties!
The sessions are initially just intended for women, but men will be allowed later in the summer. The premise behind the workshops are that many women feel uncomfortable asking questions if the instructors are men or asking too many questions, so the organizers are trying to create an environment where women feel they have complete access. In the future, sessions will be open to men.
Yes... lol.
And sadly, separate but equal seems to be all the common thing again these days.
Will there be a men only session, because sometimes men feel uncomfortable or awkward asking questions in front of women or to a female instructor. This is especially true when it comes to finance and home repair questions. Maybe you could consider a separate but equal seminar for the men.
Does Buffalo ReUse offer any sort of "women-ecouraged" home improvement workshops/rental property maintenance? I just bought a house and would be interested in something like that although co-ed things would allow me to meet a man to do the home improvements for me...

I usually don't care about things like this, but the premise of this article and workshop are sexist in nature. I am sure that it is just as empowering for a man, or any other person, to purchase a house. Why do we always have to focus on women as though they are incapable of helping themselves without the support and guidance of others.
