Why shouldn't an observer paint this is as a typical white guy vs. black guy election north & south vs east & west?

His name is not Byron Brown, nuf said.
Pretty discouraging to see Byron leading the way on BRO poll. It seems his years of self promoting and podium whoreing have sold many people on him. If BR readers think Bendover Byron deserves another 4 years in office, than the city at large with thousands of party cronies and patronage recipiants will certainly elect him in a landslide. He is an inept, career politician devoid of leadership whos reelection assures 4 more years of decline.
Lets recap some "highlights" of his first term:
1. Signed off on a plan to secede a section of Downtown property as a soverign, lawless nation in which a private company would build a gambling casino. After initialy balking at the paltry sum the city would recieve in exchange for this drastic measure, Byron caved from political pressure put on him by the city comptroller as well as the polls. Merits of the SGC-NYS compact aside nobody can dispute the lack of followthrough on their commitment to build a "333 million dollar facility" The community is left with a no frills blue shed drainining over 33 million per year from the local economy each year and a rusting steel building frame. Blame can go to a lot of people for this epic fail but i give most of it to the Mayor who had the power to stop it.
2. Stood by and watched as B. Higgin$, the DOT and road construction special interests demolished and then rebuilt the obstructive elevated portion of rt 5 along the waters edge. This potentialy prime property will now sit underused for yet another generation. As Mayor of the city with most to lose in this project Byron should have been out there fighting this all the way beating Higgy into submition with his podium if need be. No, Byron took the path of least resistance and allowed them to ravage South Buffalos waterfront again. Byron of course is mindful of his political career and possibly being in the position of asking BH for a job one day so he didnt dare challenge the congressman everyone seem to love. Good for Byrons resume, terrible for Buffalo.
3. Used SWAT personel to break up a Canisius College party in an childish retaliation for the schools camera catching his son red handed in a hit and run.
4. Shameless self promoter taking his trademark podium to every development that he feels entitled to take credit for. He also has filled the City access cable channel with his lousy infomercials.
I can imagine, of course, the only reason he is leading the poll, is because he gave T.O. a key to the city today.
It's a race between experience and someone that can't even formulate a thought verbally during Common Council meetings. My bet is on the current mayor who has the proper connections with state and federal government. better to have experience than ts start from square one.
besides, with the current economic challenges, you need that experience in dealing with the other forms of government.

Both Brown and Kearns deserve to lose, but I predict we'll soon see in scientific polls that Brown's approval rating is pretty high city-wide.
I'm not impressed with Kearns lack of expressing clear differences yet. It's early, but considering he's such an underdog I think he'd need to articulate very soon a set of clear reasons for running if he hopes to have even a long shot chance of a stunning upset.
Just being "not Byron" might be enough if Byron was already very unpopular, but that's not the reality at all.
The neat thing about the actual election is that you won't be able to clear your cache to vote more than once and skew the results. Can't imagine that that's happened here though!
