The FAN Awards Will Premier In Buffalo

The FAN Awards Will Premier In Buffalo
A friend of mine found out about this and excitedly sent it to me saying, "Ahmad Rashad is going to be in Buffalo!"  We were both pretty enthusiastic, thanks to a healthy appreciation of his football career, his time as a sportscaster at NBC, and our love for RealTV, the clip show you had to watch BEFORE Youtube was available.  But what are the FAN Awards?

The FAN (Fan Awards Network) Awards are the brainchild of Rashad, and are a traveling awards show set to honor local high school, college, and professional sports.  The Buffalo show is the premier, and will be held at Shea's on May 21st.  You can get tickets through the aforementioned website.  Also, be sure to add your vote to the 500,000 they've already received in the numerous categories celebrating all those levels of sports excellence in WNY.

I managed to get in touch with FAN rep Steve Webster who answered my questions about the show.

Q: Why Buffalo?  Does Ahmad have a connection with our city?
A:  Our research showed that Buffalo was the most ideal market for passionate high school, college, and pro sports.  And yes, Ahmad has a connection with Buffalo.  He actually suggested Buffalo initially because he remembered the passionate fans from his time as a Buffalo Bill playing for Lou Saban.

Q:  Will this be an annual event?  Will we see the FAN Awards next year?
A:  Absolutely.  Our goal is to continue building awareness and recognition in each of our markets.  As for our Buffalo website, we will continually update it with new content, features, and benefits throughout the year.  Our next awards show in Buffalo will take place between March and June of next year.  With the ongoing support of Buffalo, we hope to make the FAN Awards a staple in the yearly calendar.

Q:  Are any other cities on your roster?
A:  We will be announcing our roll-out plans for five other regions this summer.  Our roll-out plans for 2010 will hopefully include 15 new regions.

There will be a significant professional sports presence at the event with local legends like Jim Kelly, Joe DeLamielleure, Bruce Smith, Andre Reed, Ryan Miller, Matt Barnaby, Rob Ray, Danny Gare, and even Goo Goo Dolls member Robby Takac, among plenty of others.  As for nominees, each has been invited along with four tickets, and most have confirmed attendance at the show on the 21st.

Over 40 awards will be given in 26 categories.  Check out the website for complete listings.  Be a part of the first ever FAN Awards!

How about inviting Randy Smith, Bob McAdoo or Dr. Jack Ramsay?
