The Elmwood Village Inn: From Drab To Fab

The Elmwood Village Inn: From Drab To Fab
Whenever someone asks me where they should stay when they come to Buffalo, I always make sure that I mention the Elmwood Village Inn (Honu House) as one of my top faves. I still can't believe the number of people that I talk to that have no idea that there is a bed and breakfast on Elmwood Avenue. Well, actually it's not a true bed and breakfast, though owner Karen Powell has been known to accommodate her guests in any way that she can. And I don't think the breakfast element of the formula is as necessary since a walk out of the front door in either direction will prove sufficient when searching out a myriad breakfast, lunch and dinner destinations. The inn does feature a second floor kitchenette and Karen provides a Continental breakfast for those who don't have time to explore the neighborhood eateries.

Boy was I surprised when I saw my neighbor, Chip Sullivan, painting the front of this place. The inn has been transformed (almost overnight) into a vibrant icon of the block. The previous color was a grayish-white... not bad, but nowhere nearly as impressive as what can be seen now. Talk about a transformation - the colorful details really pop. Finally the outside pays homage to the inside. What? You haven't seen the inside? Alright, then you can check it out here. Don't forget to add this inn to your own list of urban guest residences. You can tell your out-of-town visitors to look for the colorful inn near the historic Lafayette Church.

On our last couple of visits to the Buff we've had the pleasure of staying at the Elmwood Village Inn and have enjoyed them thoroughly! Karen is a delight. The place itself warm and inviting. And the rooms (we've been in 2 different) are fantastic. It's a great place with a good vibe and really positive ju-ju. And now, I am really lovin' the new paint.

Karen - Theresa and I send our love!

I just looked at this on google maps (I wasn't sure what it looked like before) and wow... it looks so much better now! It really fits into the area and is a place people would be excited to pull into while on vacation.

It's a great inn, too. I stayed here when I was a Buffalo visitor, and put my guests up there, too.

Why is it so friggin' hard for Buffalo Rising to provide links to anyone other than Buffalo Rising? The Elmwood Village Inn is here: http://www.elmwoodvillageinn.com/

Sorry, I think the paint scheme makes a beautiful home look hideous

It looks fantastic. Really makes the place stand out compared to the former color scheme. Love color variety in any streetscape.

This is a spectacular place to stay. I stayed with family in the 3rd floor apartment suite. You can not ask for anything better. It is a beautiful home that is decorated with incredible sophistication. There is a continental breakfast served by the way.
