When Darren and I met up, we immediately began to discuss the potential of the beach. Despite the furiously blowing chilly wind, we got to work and kept talking about plans. We decided to start a 'Friends of Emerald Beach' Facebook site in order to keep others informed as to the progress made. As we chucked the debris, a woman came strolling down to the beach to thank us for pitching in. She told us that she lives down on the water and the beach had become a daily destination for her and her family. She then volunteered to be on the newfound committee. Before we new it her mom and her daughter also volunteered. So there we were... about fifteen minutes into forming the group and we already had a family onboard (three generations).
Ultimately we decided that it would be fun to have a couple of get-togethers at the beach this summer. If you join the Facebook group, we'll let you know when. I also want to give kudos to The City for conducting the heavy workload at the beach. I understand that they spent some time hauling out the larger logs earlier in the season, which made our job today much easier. We still need to go back with a rake and clear off the smaller sticks - it would be good to have a fire pit somewhere down there, though I can't imagine it would be allowed. Next we're sitting down to discuss small measures that would help to improve the quality of the beach. If we can get a lot of public support for the beach, we can hopefully make more and more improvements.

does the city have plans for debris removal at this location so that it's ready for the marina season which usually starts around this time...
this is a great spot with a ton of potential, let's hope there's enough of an appeal for this little 'paradise' to expand it a bit...my kids love it and that's good enough for me...
