Have you ever solved a six-foot-high puzzle, or taken a text-messaging scavenger hunt, or discovered a secret party? Now you can--all in one day. On Saturday, May 2, Buffalo First is hosting the "Move It!" street game, from 11AM-5PM, in front of the Adult Learning Center at 389 Virginia Street (at Elmwood Avenue).
Participants can register here. The event's aim is to encourage people to have fun discovering great independent businesses in town. People can participate in teams or alone. The centerpiece of the game will be a large, bright orange, 35 x 6 foot puzzle which can only be solved using team work. Then, the text-messaging hunt begins. The event concludes with a party at an undisclosed location where participants can win prizes.
The
game's designer, University at Buffalo graduate Morgan Calhoon, explains its
purpose: "Play is a great way to both learn and have fun. Street games are even
more exciting because they remove the limitations of traditional games and
insert themselves into the real world. Anything is possible, and every game is
different because the people in the streets change. These types of games have
so much potential, and it is exciting to watch people challenge themselves while
playing. Anything is possible in a street game, and that is what makes them
fun!" For more information: Buffalo First.
