After an impressive season, the Bandits were taken out by the New York Titans in an uncharacteristically low-scoring game. The Bandits offense, whose lowest goal total of the season to that point had been 6, managed only 3 goals on New York's Matt Vinc in the 9-3 loss.
Buffalo's stars John Tavares and Mark Steenhuis were noticeably quiet in the contest, managing only two assists each. Steenhuis was especially befuddled, as his game-leading 15 shots on goal were unable to beat Vinc. Frustration came into play as the game continued when Buffalo took several late-game penalties, four of which in the 4th quarter, icing the win for New York. The third quarter injury to Bandits netminder Ken Montour wasn't a factor; backup Mike Thompson only allowed 1 goal during his 15 minutes at the pipes.
The Titans gave the Bandits season-long troubles, beating them in every meeting this season and outscoring them 31-21 in the three combined games. In fact, they were the only team to sweep the Bandits this year.
Despite the loss, it was a respectable season for the Bandits. Here's to another long postseason run in 2010.
