Aud Demolition Photo Contest

Aud Demolition Photo Contest
Everyone knows that the Aud is being demolished, and you should really get down there and see it in person if you haven't already.  It's interesting and sad and beautiful and cool and bittersweet and other things - all in one.  The point I'm making here is that you can win cool stuff if you take a great photograph of the Aud during its demolition.

Starting today and ending at 5PM on May 28, amateur photographers can submit photographs to the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation via mail.  (ECHDC, 95 Perry Street, Suite 500, Buffalo NY, 14203-3030, attn: "Photo Contest.")  The photograph must be on CD or DVD, in .gif, .jpg, or .tif format.  Make sure you check out the official rules on the website before you send anything in.

The person with the winning photograph will receive a pair of the Aud's famous orange seats, an Aud brick, an "Aud Demolition Team" sweatshirt, provided by Demco Inc., and a "Farewell Old Friend" cap provided by New Era.  The winner will be announced mid-June during the final demolition ceremonies.

The runner-up will receive all of that good stuff, minus the orange seats.

So get down there and start taking some good shots!  And good luck!

You can only submit via snail mail on a disc? Glad to see they're technologically up to date. Sheesh!

This may be a stupid question, but does any body know if they are saving the architecturally significant pieces of the aud, like the ones pictured?

Not a stupid question. I have read (here, I think) vague suggestions that some of these pieces are to be saved, but I do not have a lot of confidence in the process. The issue is worth raising again.

Yes, the architecturally-significant pieces have been saved as much as possible. The seal of Buffalo, the eagles, and the cornerstone are being stored at the Ward pumping station for future use/ceremonies. Plus there are about a thousand people who have rocks they've pilfered through the fences throughout the process - not enough the rebuild the Aud if we needed to, but enough to remember it by.

I passed by the Aud after I saw this post yesterday, and I thought it would have been cool to have set up a camera in an upper-floor office window of the HSBC tower and taken a series of time-lapse photos of the demolition of the Aud. Has that occurred to anyone who works in the offices near the Aud?

Also, I propose we rename the hulk of the remaining structure "Daud" as in "Dead Aud" --who's with me?

The ECHDC has set up a time lapse camera in the HSBC building. You can find it on their website I believe.
