Subway: Like Night And Day

Subway: Like Night And Day
Finally. Subway eatery has finally replaced its crappy looking awning at the corner of Elmwood and Forest. For years the dirty yellow vinyl billboard welcomed people to the neighborhood with a 'We don't care' attitude. The dark green replacement is like night and day - especially at night. No more bugs... no more grime... I never thought that I would see the day (or night). Some people might think that a replacement awning is an insignificant change. That may be true in some cases, but there are people out there who care about the appearance of the business community. Especially when there are so many locally owned businesses that do go out of their way to make the district attractive for shoppers.

It was back in December of '07 that a paper sign went up in the window announcing new ownership. I was hoping that the notice would signal a cleaned up appearance - so it took a while longer than I had hoped. Actually, if you think back a few years ago... back before 2006... you might remember when this building was painted an outdated garish blue color. The new subdued paint job did a lot for the corner, but the business was still stuck with a beat up yellow awning. Hopefully more businesses in the city will look to improve their image by cleaning up their storefronts. Even though I would have preferred to see a canvas awning go up at the corner, I'm still happy that I won't have to stare at the old yellow eyesore any longer.

minor aesthetic improvement make a world of difference on attitude and optimism in Buffalo....outsiders also have a much better impression, instead of everything looking ghetto.

Most storefronts in town are a disaster. Signage is terrible. There is no excuse for this.

I wish that there were more mature trees on Elmwood... Could something be done to get businesses to not only buy but also care for trees in front of their establishment? Just imagine how beautiful the EV would be with a mature tree canopy?

much more pleasing to the eye, I like the color, pity it's one of those plastic awnings still though.

A number of localities across the country mandate fabric awnings instead of plastic at certain neighborhoods, but you'll never find a Subway in those areas.

Much nicer look, but still lipstick on a pig.

Great but lets also not forget that the upstairs is indicative of a Tudor with its vertical beams. They need to be the same dark green as the sign with a medium tone for the shingle.

OH AND IF ANYONE KNOWS THE OWNER OF THE PROPERTY...YOU FINALLY GOT THE SIGN IN DARK GREEN...WONDERFUL...CAN YOU GET RID OF THE WHITE WINDOWS!

Yuk. Better than before, but it's still a bubble awning.

I though these bubble backlit awnings with signage on them were a no-no according to the Elmwood Guidlines. How did they get another one up?

Replacing the 'forest' on Forest Ave would be a giant improvement. A few tiny saplings have been planted lately, but on the wrong side - they should be in the tree park on the north side; they're doomed in the 2ft wide strips on the south side.
