Mediterranea Seafood and Grill

Mediterranea Seafood and Grill
It's kind of obscure... you might miss it if you're hastily cruising down Hertel. Here's a word to the culinary wise - stop in to Mediterranea Seafood and Grill as soon as you get a chance. We popped our heads in yesterday to take a gander at this eatery operated by Reyad Mahmoud. The front of the building was simple and clean, while broadcasting just enough to capture our curiosity. Unfortunately we had just eaten lunch, so we weren't that hungry. But that didn't stop Reyad from offering up a couple of samples for us to try. I'm a big fan of falafel, though I'm certainly not an expert on what makes it good or bad. I do know that I don't like falafel too dry - something that can occur too easily even at the best restaurants. So I was happy when I discovered that the falafel was nice and moist... and exceptionally tasty. As a matter of fact it was some of the best falafel that I've ever had.

Next we tried the taboulie*. I must admit that when Reyad placed the small dish in front of me I wasn't that into it. That's because every time I try taboulie it's the same - prepared with too much parsley thus overpowering the rest of the ingredients. As soon as I tasted Reyad's concoction I knew that we had come to right place - delicious and perfectly blended. With a couple of samples and a wink of an eye, Reyad had converted us to fans of Mediterranea Seafood and Grill - so much so that we're stopping back in this Saturday for a full lunch.

Ever since I saw the menu I've been looking forward to trying the grape leaves, which he claims are as good as you'll find anywhere. He also swears that his fish fry is the unsung hero of the restaurant. If you're into chicken, lamb, beef or shrimp kabobs, you may want to try this place out. There are also other selections like gyros, salads and seafood dinners to keep just about everyone happy.

Sit down or take out - just get yourself some of this great food if you know what's good for you. And make sure that you say hi to Reyad - like most Buffalonians, he is passionate about his food (just look at the spice jars) and happy to see new faces walk through his doors.

Mediterranea Seafood and Grill is located at 1298 Hertel Avenue. The phone number is 716-876-6100. Hours are 10:30am to 9:30pm 7-days a week!

This place looks great. I love when restaurants put their menu in the window and those are some great hours.

i recently tired the place myself - decent prices, very good food, and very friendly service. definitely worthy of being added to rotation.

i wish Reyad the best.

Hola!

Reyad and his son make the best falafels in Buffalo, along with the grapeleaves, baba ganoush and tabouli to die for mmmmm. We are hooked and can't wait to go back every weekend.

We are sure we'll be voting for them for next year's "Best Of Buffalo"

Peace!
