Holy *#*@, Bills Sign Terrell Owens

Holy *#*@, Bills Sign Terrell Owens
In their most surprising personnel move since the Drew Bledsoe trade - and maybe most surprising personnel move ever - the Buffalo Bills have signed Terrell Owens to 1 year contract for $6.5 million. Owens, who is 2nd all-time in receiving touchdowns, has been one of the NFL's most controversial players.  He's criticized his quarterback, he's done sit-ups in his driveway during a press conference, and he's cried

Oh yea, and he's racked up 951 receptions for 14,122 yards and 139 touchdowns.

After ranking 25th in total offense last season, the Bills needed to upgrade their offense.  Historically, the Bills have avoided 'problem' players like TO, but maybe Marshawn Lynch has changed their thinking. Marshawn's Chippewa driving problems combined with his new fondness for guns combined with TO's antics will make the Bills one of the more interesting dramas for 2009.  Heck, maybe TO will move in with Marshawn into Jim Kelly's old pad

Does this mean Ralph Wilson is indeed interested in winning now.  Or is he just trying to keep Bills fans interested.  Either way, this news will have the town talking right up until the opening game.

Let's hope Trent Edwards has a thick skin.

More details as they come. . .

Great player but just came off a sub-par year in Dallas. Not sure what the benefit is to bring his poisonous ego into the locker room. Should make for an interesting year and that's probably the only reason they did it.

HA! That title sums up my reaction exactly... Personally, I think this is a good deal. We gt one of the league's premier recievers for only 6.5mil. Thats a pretty good deal considering Laveraneus Coles just signed a 7mil/yr contract in Cincinatti. It also gives our young QB an extra threat and takes a lot of heat off of Lee Evans.

If he is a cancer in the locker room, like many people think he will be, its only for one year and he's gone. Also, with only a one year deal T.O. knows he is going to have to play his best so that he can get paid next year.

Dont like it at all. Trent Edwards doesnt need any washed up primadonna hurting his confidence.

Apparently, TO may think Buffalo is in Canada as he's quoted as saying:

"I'm leaving America's team for North America's team."

And/or maybe he isn't aware Dallas is in North America.

Don't forget- the Bills play in Toronto, although I wouldn't be surprised if TO didn't even know that

Russ Brandon is a marketing genius.
How many season ticket holders just decided to renew their seats?

^Precisely. Great PR move. He just might give us the depth needed to win a few extra games but he serves a bigger purpose with this franchise - entertainment.

TO is a great receiver. He's matured significantly and Buffalo has a knack for bringing people down to earth. He'll be the center of attention and I'm sure he'll rise to the occasion.

And as to blue devil' remark, perhaps he means that he's coming to "real" America and or he's speaking to our diverse fan-base of Canadian supporters, something I'm sure was discussed with him.

If TO trashed tony romo, what do think he's going to do to Trent Edwards. This is the Bills last desperate attempt to boost tickets sales. TO's salary is coming off of the backs of blue collar Buffalonians who work hard for their money and get no recognition for their unfailing support of the Bills. Notice that premier teams were not fighting to scoop up TO.

There is no need to "boost ticket sales." The games routinely sell out. This is an attempt to get back into the playoffs after 10 years on the outside. We'll see hoe it works out.

Terrell Ownes is well acquainted with WNY, he was pursued by the Bills when he left San Francisco. He and Eric Moulds are very close friends. There was an annual charity basketball tournament in Orchard Park that the two participated in, I'm not sure if it's still held. Signing him is a very good move on a number of fronts.

1. A Seven man set up front will give Lynch and Freddy Jackson more opportunity for bigger ground gains. It also gives us numerous offensive options.
2. Marketing, Marketing and Marketing. This will affect our schedule, giving us bigger ratings and more media exposure.
3. We have only $6.5 million to lose, if things so sour with T.O. **** Jauron is fired, if things went sour with out T.O. Jauron would be fired anyway.
4. T.O. is playing in a contract year with us, not to mention a contract year going into a cap less season. This means he needs to produce if wants to continue to make big money and break records. This also gives us the opportunity to franchise tag him in 2010.

Last year we had no chemistry on offense so he really can't ruin that. If I were part of the offensive side of the ball I would begin to train with T.O. now, create a bond and welcome him. In other words build an offensive chemistry from the ground up.

The fans that think it's a bad move need to look at the big picture. We have nothing to lose.

Funny you say that, premium season ticket holders were contacted earlier this month to renew. I think the response they got so far was sub-par. At least the premium ticket holders I know were not going to renew. So far a few have had a change of heart.

Thumbs up to the front office on this one. Proven talent at a relatively cheap price that's getting the fan excited months before training camp. Plus it's only a 1 year contract in case he goes south. Too bad **** Jauron will still royally %#^#!! it up all over again.

This is a smart move. In a down economy the team will sell more tickets before opening day than they would have without T.O. In terms of publicity, ESPN loves T.O., the Bills will be all over NFL Live/Sportcenter etc. every week when they normally would be an afterthought. I'm not crazy about this truth but T.O. in TO will be a huge hit. He will definitely help sell tix at the Rogers Center. The Bills have been 7-9 for three straight seasons and haven't made the playoffs in ten years. Worst case scenario...more of the same. For those of you who call T.O. "cancer in the lockerroom" I have good news. The cure for locker room cancer is a one year contract. If he causes problems and the Bills again miss the playoffs, his locker will be cleaned out and he will be gone by Christmas. We need more than T.O. to win. We need an o-line to protect Edwards. We need a pass rush also. See what the do in the draft. Like him or not, the Buffalo Bills just got more exciting even it does end up being more of the same.

I am stocking up on popcorn...just in case.

Finally the Bills do something in the off season. This is the best free agent signing of the year in the NFL and the best the Bills have made since 2002. Everyone here seems to have an opinion but forgets that T.O. is loved by the major networks meaning more games in prime time and therefore much more exposure. While you might say its nice to stay out of the limelight, that route doesn't bring any revenue to the team. I'm happy that Bills are finally bringing a proven big name to the roster. He should get a ton of passes, a ton of TDs and hopefully the Bills can make the playoffs this year since we haven't made them since 1999, but oh everyone just complain how terrible this move is because we might actually have a playoff year and might generate a lot of out of town revenue.

I guess you don't watch too much football-he led the league in drops last year. This is like a team like thew KC Royals signing Barry Bonds. Is Buffalo so desparate for attention and prime time games that they make a bad move like this?

If he is such a great sign, why did every other team pass on him? A desparate move by the Bills and TO.

TO or **** Jauron will be gone by week 7. You heard it here first...Jauron is a ***** and cannot handle any team cancer like TO...he is a Team Obliterator. Ask Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb, Tony Romo, Wade Phillips, Jerry Jones, Andy Reid, etc etc etc

"TO=Team Obliterator" haha good one, are you classifying that as a pun or acronym?

Do you really think that The Buffalo Bills in 2008 finished the season with strong chemistry? Jauron will be gone if we don't make the playoffs no matter what! We really have zero to lose.

Plus your wrong about week 7, Ralph doesn't fire anyone mid-season. I figure you would at least know that having Lynch as your avatar. He is too old to even deal with the commotion of a mid-season shake up. I really don't see a down side to this.

Hey Sambo, stop posting about football, you make dumber statements with every post. The biggest laugh has to be your "franchise player" comment after this season.

TO didn't want to come to Buffalo, I thinbk it was the last place he would want to come. he came here because no one else wanted him-for a reason!

I was one referring to the franchise tag option that the Bill will have after next season, being franchise tagged dose not mean that your the face of the franchise, he assumes that by default. Look up the definition then weigh who made a "dumber" statement. Second check your facts he was second in the league in drops. Ownes can drop passes all season as long as he is drawing double coverage, it opens up the rest of our offense.

Owens is no stranger to WNY, he and Eric Moulds are good friends. When Mould was here he hosted a charity basketball tournament that Ownes and a bunch of other pro athletes played in. I'm not sure if it's still held with Moulds long gone. How do you know Owens doesn't want to be in Buffalo? We went the only team looking to sign him either, but love him or hate him he is here.
