Fans of the defunct alt-rock band The Sheila Divine will rejoice when the group's former frontman, Aaron Perrino brings his latest project, Dear Leader to Buffalo this Saturday night at the 1st Annual "Rites of Sound" event, at the Big Orbit Gallery, 30 Essex Street in Buffalo.
This is a benefit concert for the Essex Arts Center Arts in Education program.
Perrino, a native of Hamburg, gathered quite a fan base in Buffalo earlier this decade with The Sheila Divine. Since the Divine's 2003 breakup, Perrino has formed a new four-piece called Dear Leader, with UB Grad and former Tugboat Annie member, bassist Jon Sulkow. Guitarist Will Claflin and drummer Paul Buckley round out the band. The band is currently working on their 3rd full length release produced and engineered by Paul Kolderie (Radiohead, The Pixies, Hole and Uncle Tupelo to name a few).
Dear Leader's soaring rock music and heart-felt vocals characterize the band, a mixture that would catch the interest of any U2 fan.
Buffalo's A Potter's Field will be opening the show with their contemporary alt rock sound.
Due to the intimacy of the venue, only 100 tickets are being sold for this show. Word on the street is that the show is selling pretty well and available for $10 at Left Bank or at the door.

Sweet! Every week I scan Artvoice or Gusto hoping to see a listing for Perrino's band. I think the last few gigs were at Mohawk. Looking forward to the new release.
My favorite show was Sheila Divine at the Showplace back in '01. They did a cover of Hungry Like the Wolf. I think Aaron accidentally broke his red guitar on stage that night.
