"The group plans the local and regional trips - we're hosting between 25-30 events in the first year alone. The cost is $45 ($60 per couple) and includes two free parties - some events might require additional charges for equipment rentals, food, etc. Our launch party is March 27th at Flying Bison Brewery. This is a social club, which means that members might choose to go on an organized hike one week, and follow it up with a wine tasting night in order to plan the next excursion. Many of the trips will take place in the city - urban bike rides and running races... we'll even host some pub crawls. It's a year 'round club intended to show people all of the regional adventures that we have right in our own backyard. We have been promoting the club on a couple of different social networking sites and I'm happy to report that we already have people signing up. Judging by the positive response, we're anticipating 150 people to sign up this year alone."

Seriously, Jeff, this is a great idea and will fill a niche -- I heard from a friend in Buffalo just this week, who was venting about having trouble finding others to go on Buffalo adventures with. Congrats and best wishes!
Good luck with this. The Buffalo-area features some great outdoor experiences...Niagara Gorge and Hunter's Creek being my fav's.
Good luck indeed and I agree with Perry as there are many great outdoor adventures to be had in this area. In fact we are doing a hike on Sunday to Shale Creek Preserve to see the Eternal Flame Waterfall that many do not even know about!
Awesome idea. I would suggest in the future that maybe you consider a family rate too and orient some urban things toward kids. A significant aspect of creating and ensuring sustainable urban lifestyle is children and getting them familair and used to the city.
Maybe that's not your mission, but I'll throw it out there.
Buffalo and WNY are blessed with the amount of beauty available to enjoy. I just hope that my children can still explore some of the wilderness before it becomes a cul de sac.
