Peace-centered, Political Art Called for Exhibit at B West

Peace-centered, Political Art Called for Exhibit at B West

Laurie Tanner of the WNY Peace Center is planning an exhibit at B West Studio (148 Elmwood Avenue). The exhibit will run from April 3rd to May 3rd.

Tanner asks artists to submit images that revolve around the idea of peace. Politically-centered pieces are also acceptable. Tanner promises that she will not censor anyone, but asks that any violent images in a piece be kept to a respectable level.

Artists may submit between three and 10 pieces, depending on size. All works must be ready to hang (meaning framed), excluding canvas pieces that are properly stretched for display. Media is also welcome, including written and 3-D works.

Deadline is March 6th.

WNY Peace is asking a $30 hanging fee, which is due prior to the work's hanging. The fee will help cover the building expenses and utilities. As for the breakdown of numbers - 40 percent commission will be collected on the sales of artwork; 20 percent will be given to the gallery (the hanging fee may be deducted from this); 20 percent will be given to the WNY Peace Center; leaving 20 percent for the artist of the work.

Tanner acknowledges the economic times, but still urges participation, noting that people are more likely to attend and purchase if the proceeds are going to a worthy cause.

The group also seeks musicians to perform at the opening of the exhibit and throughout the duration of the exhibit.
