This Valentine's Day, remember to support the local businesses. Also, take time to think of the new businesses that are making a big difference in our neighborhoods. Businesses like Mum's and Daisy's (see back story), which opened just in time for the fourteenth. Rene Moran's vision for the flower shop was ultimately pulled together with the help of friends and family who were determined to support a West Side neighborhood flower shop. Just two weeks ago, the walls were bare except for the initial arrivals of shelving, displays and fridges. Now it's a completely different story. The bouquets are arranged, the vases are filled and the cabinets are stocked. Actually, that was yesterday - hopefully today is a different story. Judging by the traffic walking through the door, Rene is going to have her hands full throughout the day.
For all of you last minute Valentine's Day shoppers out there, don't forget to add Grant Street to your shopping list. Pick up a Great Arrow card or some Buffalo Bark chocolates, or snag a simple rose for your loved one.

And don't forget about another sweet corner market that opened recently. Tastings (see back story), located at the corner of Amherst Street and Elmwood is also expecting you. Market owner, Maria Kahn, sent me this sweet note a short time ago:
"It's all about tasting at Tastings. Tastings puts their hearts out to please the community sweet tooth on Valentines day by giving away FREE heart shaped chai chocolate ganache brownies to anyone stopping by. Stop in for a LOVE-ly Taste."

once again i wish this venture all the best.for many years i bought flowers at this location when it was Peek-A-boo florist. it's great to see this corner come back to life,and there is no other option for flowers in the area, so i can't see how she could fail. can't wait to stop in and buy a bouquet!! thanks to all involved for seeing the potential of this once vibrant retail district, and being the start of it's inevitable return.
