There's another Wednesday night concert coming up, and you should decide to go based on the respectability of the music--forget about the weather! Instead of looking blankly at band names in the events section and hoping you're lucky, allow me to give you my take on what Free Henry! sounds like.
If you were to take the voice of The Fray, tune it a touch more soulful and give it to band members of The Killers, after they'd listened to too much Coldplay...you'd have Free Henry!
This isn't to say they're imitators, but that each band represents an element of influence. There's definitely an 80's pop sensibility to their melodies and musical direction. They certainly don't skimp on giving you the feel good, stuck in your head choruses. Expect mainstream pop rock, but with more guts than you're used to hearing. And they know how to do what they do very well. If you want to describe it to a friend in 4 words you could say: smart minded rock pop.
This Wednesday, February 4th, at 7:30PM, Free Henry! will be
playing at UB's Allen Hall Theater. The band is set to perform their new album,
Summers on Neptune, in its entirety, which provides a unique opportunity to hear
it as it's meant to be heard. This event, which will also include a band
interview, is to be broadcast on 88.7 WBFO as part of their On the Border Wednesday Night Concert
Series. The show is free and all ages are welcome. So if you have a preference
for the sound described, please come out and support your local
musicians.
Look for Free Henry! as they tour across the northeast this year.
