"We are well underway with our architectural drawings but are awaiting some governmental considerations to remain competitive with the surrounding condominium developments. We have been cautiously mindful of our market study and are being certain to be cost effective knowing full well the challenges of the present economy and the Greater Buffalo market. We are reconsidering a mix of rental units as well as condos to better complete the project but we remain confident that the project will provide some of the most beautiful settings on the Buffalo Waterfront. We expect to have units available in the end of 2010."

Leave a commentI thought the industrial look was in fashion these days...
Some Buffalo developers still like to chew on the 1970s for their inspiration.
Paul i'm disappointed in your creativity. Clearly the design is a play off the Canadiana which rotted for years in the nearby water!
Nick, I'm disappointed, too. It's the Fourth of July colors on a structure the size of an oil tanker that threw me off course.
These drawings are lovely but will remain just drawings until well after 2010. I hope it comes to fruition but I recommend setting a more realistic time line if you're trying to pass one over on the community.
Great project - terrible design.
Do a quick search on condo projects being done in Austin, TX to find something more appropiate.
Ohhhh...I love this drawing. I plan on leaving my beautiful waterfront condo drawing every morning to get in my Rolls Royce drawing and drive to work over the new drawing of the parkway along Lake Erie.
Might even stop in to the drawing of Bass Pro.
Buffalo is going to be amazing soon.
Maybe this should've been a part of the Urban Sketchers article.
lol, you made coffee come out of my nose!
on a side note- what do the "Related Blog Entries" below have to do with this? How are they related? Just a heads up to BRO.

Translation: We have pretty pictures and we're waiting for some handouts. Paladino's empire zone subsidy wonderland stole our target market.
Sorry for duplicating. Didn't see your comment.
From Mr. Buchheit's quote in the article: "but are awaiting some governmental considerations"
Does that mean the following translation?
but are demanding some Empire Zone corporate welfare or other kinds of taxpayer funded bailout subsidies
In other words....."For Rent lakeside warehouse space"
Can anyone provide the definintion of "surrounding?" I'm looking for those condo projects.
Nick - Here is a map: http://tinyurl.com/6z3f3.
The guy who answered the request most of scrambled for a few minutes asking around the office: "Do we own anything in Buffalo?"
Why doesn't Swanson buy it and turnout some Hungry Man condos. Better yet, why don't we all rent a few hundred greyhound buses and get the hell out of this ****hole and move to Chicago.
That would make an awesome office complex...I dont think it should go residential at all!
At the very least it should be mixed use with majority office space.
The design does look like one of those "riverboat" casinos in Tunica Misssissippi. Only the "paddlewheel" is missing. While these guys are sorting out the market mix, might I suggest a more straightforward refresh of the Great White?
Aren't these the same people who did such a bang-up job with the Statler. Nice drawings. I'm sure great things are coming!
A drawing and a dream. This is all too common for Buffalo.
Don't stress about the design, we will have a new one to replace this idea in the next 18 months.

Are the developers still sticking with their design that looks like a dockside Queen Mary awaiting its passengers?
