Sue (Frenchy) Cholewa always knew that if she continued to beat the creative marketing drum, she would eventually land a permanent tenant at 464 Amherst Street. Actually, the best thing that she ever did was to open her space for a group art show during the holiday season. It was because of the success of the December Art Market (and another show, "Ideal Forms", back in '07) that two artists, Marcus Wise and Jill Hart, have decided to run with the gallery concept. Starting in February, the two will be dedicating the space to a mix of gallery, retail and workshop. In preparation for the launch of 464, Jill and Marc are playing on the theme of 'Bad Love'.
The Bad Love show was chosen because of the timeliness of the Grand Opening. The first show will open the day before Valentine's Day... Friday the 13th. The two will both be showing work that relate to those two opposing (not always) themes. But they aren't going it alone it turns out - they are looking for artists, musicians, authors, sculptors, etc. who want to join in on the fun. The intention is to turn this old world space (former appliance store - originally men's clothier) into a happening artistic destination. Another welcome addition to Black Rock. Amherst Street is beginning to attract a new generation of business that is bringing a level of energy and interest not seen in years. The old storefronts have many original architectural details and rents are very reasonable making this area an attractive alternative to Elmwood or Hertel.
