ESPN Reports: Bills Keep Jauron
Comments
Leave a commentok, if Jauron were fired he would NEVER get another head coaching position...Look at our last head coaches...Mike Malarkey, Coordinator.....Gregg Williams, just fired as D coordinnator...Wade Phillips, joke of the league...Ralph is too old and out of the loop, as is Marv Levy...the game has passed you two antiques
Does this mean the BRO Weekly Poll will change?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buffalo=mediocrity in all aspects...politicians to football
Wilson is giving us a HUUUUUGE Middle Finger! ..|..
That picture is a disgrace to Buffalo Rising. How about an actual discussion about the decisions made by Ralph Wilson and Juron as opposed to an immature posting not worthy of Perez Hilton.
Actually...I thought it was quite amusing and appropriate considering the decision just made..
While Ralph Wilson makes some poor decisions we should be critical of those decisions. Posting a picture of the man who brought and kept the Bills in Buffalo all these years next to a picture of a monkey is reprehensible. The Buffalo Bills for better or worse have been the fabric of this city during its unfortunate decline. At 90 years old I think the owner of the team, our team deserves more respect than this. Be critical of his decisions, have a thoughtful conversation about the mistakes he's made but lets not be so childish. I had to scold and I like having a laugh but not at someone's expense in this manner.
The picture could have been much worse....and the likeness is undeniable.
Image the outrage if he was African American..
You need to put some of the blame on the Buffalo sports fans here. The majority knows this was a terrible decision driven by a cheap front office, yet the fans will still sell out every game while stocking their homes with overpriced jerseys/gear. It's time we take a stand and hit the old man where it hurts, the pocket book!
Well as we like to say in Buffalo, "There's always next year."
dgoshilla: "The Buffalo Bills for better or worse have been the fabric of this city during its unfortunate decline."
By fabric, you surely can't mean the economic fabric, or even morale for that matter. The Bills play in Orchard Park, nowhere near the mass of bars, hotels, city parking lots, etc. in Buffalo. They play 8 times a year. People go and tailgate for games, and at the end, tailgate some more, go home, or some hit the bars.
Morale wise, it's great having a football team. I think everyone agrees even having a losing team is better than having no team at all. But at the end of the day the Bills have missed the playoffs now 9 straight seasons, and lost 4 Superbowls consecutively with the dream team. All the while, Raplph Wilson continues to insult the city, remarking that he doesn't think we can support a pro football team; despite the fact that Buffalo ranks amongst the best in the league in game sellouts. Buffalo also has one of the larger stadiums in the league.
If you want to talk about a team supporting a city, it's the Sabres. There is no comparison to the 42+ times a year the Sabres pack downtown to the Bills' 8 games a year out in Orchard Park.
I agree, the picture of the monkey should be taken down. While we can chastise Wilson for his football decisions, we should not stoop to the level of immaturity that this picture depicts. Don't get me wrong, the Bills rip my heart out every year, and I keep putting up with them (somehow), but I would never challenge the integrity of Mr. Wilson as this picture does.
Now, if we want to talk football: In what way do the Bills represent Buffalo? They are nothing more than a team who rents space in Orchard Park. They do not represent us as a fan base, AT ALL! They are not a hard working team who cares about their record. They were LISTLESS against the Patriots Sunday. Does anyone care that they are treated like Bill Belichick's *****? We continue to be beaten down, and the Bills seem to hum along like nothing is wrong.
What integrity? Ralph has repeatedly kicked the fans in the crotch over the last 8-10 years and will continue to do so until he is six feet under.
He has little to no presence in this community and has shown time and time again that he has no interest in preserving the Buffalo Bills in this city once he is gone.
I say the pictures stay and I will laugh every single time I see them. Thank you BRO for taking a stand and showing that while you won't cover issues from a negative stance, you aren't afraid to point out the absurdity that this and other stories represent.
Just look at the respected coaches out there now without a job. They've all had bad seasons in a row, just look at the last 3 with Shannahan. I bet all you you would agree he's a good coach. What about Jeff Fisher? He's always been considered a great coach and he's had some terrible runs. The only consistent big name guy out there is Cowher (10 out of 15 seasons in the playoffs) Remember that crazy guy that everyone made fun of who was right about the current CBA deal? I'm not saying **** Jauron isn't to blame, but this 3 years and your out mentality is one of the reasons this league is so average.
DMZ - Jauron has coached for 9 seasons. He has 1 season with a winning record. This isn't a 'bad run,' he's simply a 'bad coach.'
If you don't have enough evidence to judge the guy already, how many seasons would you give him before pulling the plug? 12? 15? 20?
Cardiff- Can you or anyone realistically name a coach that we could get this year? I wont hold my breath.
Where were you people when they were 4-0? I'm not concerned with his prior teams, if you are then take a look at Belicheck or Shannahan's first coaching job. This is all about the last 3 years. Even if he was responsible for a couple loses, then who do you blame for the other 7? I don't agree with every call, but when you lose you always second guess everything. If it’s 4th and 1 and pass you’re an idiot, if you do run your too conservative.
Also lets take a look at some of the guys who we have run out of town. I had someone last week tell me how crappy Kevin Gillbride was, I had to remind him that he's "Super Bowl Champion" Kevin Gillbride.
Somehow the entire WNY community has lost their mind over this. For some reason everyone has forgotten to apply some blame on the players. Sure the coaches made a lot bad personal changes, play calls, and they clearly need to get rid of some dead weight. If we get a new coach there’s a greater chance the Bills have a worse record then if they keep Jauron.
Also if Wilson would have just come out and say they signed a 3 year extension 10 weeks ago no one would really be questioning this.
DMZ - So now you're changing the argument. It's not that Jauron deserves the job, it's that we couldn't find a new coach who would be better? Come on. It makes more sense to take a shot on a quality coordinator as a new head coach than to continue to suffer with Jauron. He's a proven loser. 9 years, 1 winning year. That's enough of a resume. Again, how long would you give him - 15 years?
Shanahan, in 16 seasons as a head coach, has 4 losing seasons. In fact, if you put Jauron's 9 seasons against Shanahan's WORST 4 seasons, they have the same winning percentage. In his 14 years as a head coach, Belichick has 5 losing seasons. Jauron, again, has 8 out of 9 losers. Don't compare Jauron to long-time winning coaches with multiple super bowl championships.
Yes, the roster needs to be upgraded. But the argument that you don't fix the coach because the players need to get better too is like not fixing your brakes because your wipers don't work.
The Bills have no chance of competing for an AFC East title - let alone AFC Conference title - with Jauron competing against Belichick, Parcells and the Jets (who may well sign Cowher).
The Bills success in the early 90's was the abberation. Wilson is a bad owner who has run a bad franchise with the exception of lucking into Bill Polian. And now, he'd rather not eat Jauron's contrat even though he knows this team can't win with him because he's more concerned about the team's bottom line than winning.
He should have been canned the second after making the decision to go for a 49 yard field goal in 50mph winds.
BALTH-->
My looks are compared to animals all the time, in jest. You have to expect jokes at your expense if you're in the public eye. --especially after that decision. It's isn't like BRO called him "doddering" (http://www.buffalonews.com/opinion/everybodyscolumn/story/529457.html)
The monkey is hilarious. Have a sense of humor.
Let's face it, Buffalo is not the plum coaching job we'd like to think it is. It's a small market team, in a tough conference, with an uncertain ownership future, in a town where no one wants to live. So we can wish all we'd like but Cowher, Schoetenheimer, Shanahan, Billick are not going to consider us. They will all wait for a better opening.
Instead, the Bills will need to look for a younger, less experienced coach who is moving up the ranks. I think the best candidate is Marc Trestman, currently the coach in Montreal.
Here's why I think Ralphie would hire him...
First, Marv Levy has mentored him, so there’s that connection, which Ralph obviously puts some faith in despite whatever us rubes think.
Trestman has a history of taking mediocre to poor QB’s and elevating their game to career levels (Rich Gannon, Bernie Kosar, Scott Mitchell, Jake Plummer)
He can run a high socring offense built around mediocre talent, as he showed in Oakland, Cleveland, Arizona, and now Montreal
He’s bounced around a lot, but has never been a Head Coach in the NFL, so he'd jump at the chance to take the position.
What this all boils down to is…
1.) They can afford him
2.) He’d see Buffalo as an opportunity
3.) He’s exactly what they need to get the most out of Edwards
4.) Every successful Bills coach has previously coached in the CFL (Lou Saban, Marv Levy) so Ralph must have some affinity for that
5.) He’ll understand the Canadian game when the Bills eventually move to the CFL, err I mean Toronto (OK, I'm kidding on this last one)
So, while Ralph may have chosen to stay with Jauron for one more year, we will be looking for another head coach again next December. I bet Trestman will still be available, and he'll be the surprise hire. Just remember you heard it here first.
Some of these responses are so typical of this knee-jerk reaction, always looking for the silver bullet, cannot get out of our own way town.
A few things to consider:
1) **** Jauron was a hero in this town for 6 weeks in the early season, remember when we were 5-0 and hopeful. How quickly we forget.
2) There are very few candidates available to replace **** Jauron if he were fired.
3) This team has been "rebuilding" for more than a decade, do we need five more years of mediocrity as a new head coach institutes a new culture, playbook, and hires in new personnel?
4) I could see the argument that he should go if we had the talent and success of other teams; however we have two very mediocre quarterbacks, a talented yet inconsistent backfield, mediocre wide receivers, fair secondary, strong linebackers and d-line, weak o-line, and strong special teams. I would like to know which head coach would do better with the personnel that we have on the team today?
5) One of the biggest deficiencies of the Buffalo Bills is consistency. If you want an example of what consistency and culture can do to a team, look to UB. Prior to Turner Gill, they were struggling with a new offensive and defensive scheme each year, a carousel of ever changing personnel, and a string of losing seasons. Bring in consistency and culture, and you have the foundation of success, without it you will struggle forever.
I fully support **** Jauron for another year or two, I hope that he can bring in the personnel need to assemble a great team, the Bills aren't that far off. Take a look at the number of loses that were decided by critical mistakes like interceptions, missed field goals, or fumbles. These weren't blow-outs, they were loses, often in the last minutes or seconds.
Now that we have the coaching dilemma settled, let's focus on finding a replacement for J.P. Losman, shoring up the Offensive line (they need depth and they need to gel), correct Lynch's attitude problems, and bring in a stellar CB or SS to shore up the d-back field. I think we could pull this together in the off season and really surprise everyone next year. Then we can work on keeping the Bills in Buffalo.
I agree, the photo is kind of childish.
Still, Mr. Wilson had no trouble swallowing his pride when he accepted a multi-million dollar welfare check from taxpayers. I'd say we've paid - literally - for the right to have a joke at his expense.
I was similarly outraged by the news of Jauron's "continuity." The tragedy with the season is that the players actually gave us a fair amount of good, exciting football - but seemed to be undermined and underserved by their coaching staff. I'd love to know what specific measures were hatched in this week's "Detroit huddle" to try to address specific coaching deficiencies.
As to the photo, my only issue is that on seeing it, I went almost immediately from LOL to ROFL to needing to be revived with oxygen (NEROX? New internet slang--?). C'mon, people -- stop spanking the monkey.
The picture is funny, but it only adds emphasis to my comments: I feel that the retention of Jauron was inevitable for the following reason (although I do think it is a mistake)- I knew that Ralph would keep him, primarily as a reaction to the personal invective spewed on him by Jerry Sullivan. There is no way he would agree with Sully, especially after the way he (Ralph( was portrayed in the various articles published recently in the News. Call it spite, if you will, but that's the real reason for his retention! I personally feel that the depiction of Ralph as a cheapskate and content to own a mediocre team is in error; these are excuses to attack him. More to the point, he prefers the opinions of those who are loyal to him over public opinion, especially when it is wrapped in nastiness. Don't be surprised if Jauron is canned early in the next season, if the team does the same type of things it did this year. Besides, this could change in a heartbeat, especially if that heartbeat is Ralph's last one; after all, he is almost 90!
